One epitaph I read in a book was, and everyone knows it,
I told you I was sick. That appeals to me.
the book looks at famous writers focuses on how writers as humans approach the end of their lives. There are 15 women out of 105 writers starting with classical writers and ending with people who lived in The 21st century.
I read the Sheila Hancock book too. When I was younger I mainly read autobiographies and biographies and memoirs.
I like books of lists that you can dip in and out of and gain trivia.

Hello Croix, Quirky, ER & everyone,
I once borrowed an audiobook, by poet & undertaker, Thomas Lynch, called, The Undertaking: Life Studies from the Dismal Trade. I found it to be a very sensitive & gave me a new perspective on funerals & a clearer understanding about the 'end' are able to contemplate.
I couldn't recall the exact title, so went googling, & see he has other books I think I'd like to read - so I hope they are available as audiobooks.
As fiction, I like Terry Pratchett, who had his quirky moments, & some serious comments woven into very entertaining books.
I've yet to think of an epitaph for myself. Although it's not something I have ever said, I'm tempted to have written on a marker, "Does my bum look big in this?"

Hi All,
I was sad to hear tonight about the passing of Robbie Robertson. I was transfixed by his song Fallen Angel which I heard as a 12 year old. It had some spiritual, transcendent quality that connected with me. A couple of years later I read an interview with him in Musician magazine where he described his early days in New Orleans in terms of the music that was in the sound of the river and the way people spoke. He had a spirit of adventure and followed where his soul took him - a great way to live life. His mother was Native American and they would spend time with relatives on the Reservation when he was growing up in Ontario. I loved how he described an elder there who would reel him in with his walking stick to tell him a story when he was a boy. It's like he saw poetry and magic in the world wherever he went. He had a real enthusiasm for life, for story and for memory of times past. He sure could talk a lot.
In two days I head off on another journey myself. His spirit felt similar to mine, so I feel like I'm embarking on adventures of discovery like he did. Moving across the landscape to hear the sounds, see the sites and feel the spirit of places. I will think of his free spirit and sense of wonder as I undertake my journey.

Hello ER
I'm sorry, I had to google Robbie Robertson. I saw many songs listed, & recognised "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down", (written by Joan Baez, which is the version I remember... I'm glad you found him & his music & that his life has meant a lot to you.
Have another wonderful trip into the country, taking your thoughts of Robbie Robertson with you, adding more meaning to this journey ... peace & joy to you

Thank you MK. Certain people inspired me as a kid, kind of like wise guides along the way.
Big Hugzies and peace and joy to you too,

Dear All~
I'm going to be away for a couple of weeks -nothing to worry about, just routine.
I expect my iceberg in apple pie condition when I return!
Due to the same technical difficulties MK discovered a while ago I can't put up my 'gone fishing' avatar while I'm way, I also can't say 'have fun' as my iceberg would be a wreck if you did.

Hello Croix, MK and All,
That seems very apt for a walrus to go fishing. Don’t worry, everything will be fine on the iceberg (ahem, hmmm 🤔) So nothing to worry about at all. (Hehehe).
I hope you find some delicious big fish to fit the appetite of a walrus! May you have a lovely, restful couple of weeks.

Okay, Croix, I'm off to buy some 500kgs of pie crust & 500kg of apples & a kilo of cinnamon, & maybe 350 litres of custard & a really, really big oven. ....
Croix did say, "Apple pie conditions" & so it will be!
Don't worry, Croix, you will just have an 'Applepieberg' when you return. The golden brown pastry will be easy to spot against the blue sky, & atop the light banana-yellow custard surrounding it ... very pretty??

(P.S. I hope one day that little glitch will be fixed ... I've got my own 'gone fishing' avatar I've been wanting to use, & other pics I've wanted to share as temporary avatars ... I miss yours, & waiting for when the Walrus returns, knowing you had when I spotted your usual avatar again. & I'm sure more recent members would like to personalise their avatars, too.

Good luck to whoever uses the trombone I suspect it’s frozen solid for ever. Probably leave your lips on it after trying to blow.
Hope your healths behaving Croixy man and that goes for your dear wife too.
