Hello all,
I have noted that there are a few readers on these forums. And, at the times we find it a struggle to read, we at least like the idea of reading. So, I thought I would start this Book Club thread, whereby we first throw out some genres, come to a consensus and read for as long as it takes us to read. No pressure. And should the whim take us, we can start discussing said book on here. How much we all hate/love that character. The feels the book is giving us, etc. Plus, a good excuse to take us out of our heads and into someone else's, even if it is fictional (or perhaps not?).
So, my genres:
A particular favourite is historical fiction, and next to that is post-apocalyptic/dystopian fiction. I read the classics, fantasy, philosophy and science books. And my version of a quick read is something with adventure with a bit of history there (come full circle), and maybe crime. I have never got into law based fiction books. But law based non-fiction I can do for some reason. Anyway, that's me. If I think of anything else I'll let you know. I have a "To read" list, and if anyone wants whatever is on there, let me know.

Emmy - aha yes, being able to choose my emotions for different situations would be cool. I wonder though: does that then mean we lose the spontaneity of life? Would it be better to be able to experience those moments but, set a "tolerance level" or threshold, so we don't get too out of control? I don't know.
Joelle - Good luck with the assignment!!

Oh no, I just found this thread today and don't have the book yet! Please wait for me to catch up?!
I love sci-fi and have read 4 of the options posted. I haven't gotten around to Philip K Dick yet, so #6 would have been my choice too - yay!
Will download today and hopefully be able to post soon.
Great idea, Joelle. Oh, and how good is Fight Club?!

Ok, am finally here! Have had so much trouble posting for the last two days...
But I got my book and am about a quarter through. Could someone let me know how many pages it is so I can have a guess at what page I'm up to?
James, Emmy, I agree with both of you about the mood programming element. Ultimately, I don't think it's a good thing. It certainly isn't natural. But from a purely fictional, hypothetical, point of view - oh what fun! Even just to be able to select 'work mode' each day, as it seems that it's not just mood, but maybe attitude and energy levels too? And then in a really fun way, imagine everyone goes to work in 'work mode' but you randomly choose to be aggressive and argumentative that day?!
I enjoyed the way that the couple reached a stalemate in their argument because they both had access to the winning program. That almost seemed to echo a real fight, if you know what I mean?
Sorry if this is rambly or doesn't make sense. Just feels good to be able to post again!
