Just interest guys. Do any of you have weird random thoughts, that are distressing?
Occasionally I'll have a thought that seems to come from nowhere. The other day I was looking at someone's hands and thought, they could be killers hands! (I knew it wasn't true, it caused me a great amount of stress as i love this person immensely).
It was very random! Anxiety related???

Hi Bluey Moon,
I don't personally have unusual or random thoughts of this nature, but I know that this can be experienced by those with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), which is an anxiety disorder. I have OCD, but my problems pertain to a fear of germs and involve compulsions such as excessive hand washing. Some people with OCD have unwanted and horrific thoughts, often of a violent or sexual nature. These thoughts are not acted upon, but cause the individual significant distress, as the sufferer can start to feel as though they are a horrible person for having these thoughts. This is not the case, as the thoughts are unwanted and the result of a mental health condition they can't truly control.
Because you only have these thoughts occasionally, I highly doubt you have OCD. An important question to ask is: do these thoughts cause you significant distress and interfere with your life? If not, it seems you are just having what you said - bizarre and random thoughts - which happens to many people from time to time. I am not a professional though; so if in doubt seek help. Have you been diagnosed with an anxiety condition before, by the way?
If you have other symptoms or concerns, you could enquire next time you visit your GP (or make an appointment sooner if needed).
Beyond blue have resources about anxiety, so have a read. Here is the link to info on this site about OCD:

Hi bluey moon and SM,
u r not alone. I have OCD and suffer with these intrusive thoughts. They can be horrific and can hang around for months on end. As SM said, it's more related to OCD. But ask your dr if they continue or get more distressing. Are you an anxious person in general?

Hi Guys,
thank you both for your advice! I have been diagnosed with GAD and obsessive thinking! So similar maybe to OCD?
Yes the intrusive thoughts are something I have on and off. They vary greatly, sometimes making me feel a little insane. They are all things I know aren't true, and almost all relate to something I've read or seen. (Especially since I have health anxiety, and read a lot about stuff I shouldnt)
But togeather with my Psycologist and some research I've done I've developed some coping strategies !
Thank you both for your advice!

Hi Skye,
I don't personally have thoughts like this. But I honestly believe they would be related to anxiety! it sounds just like anxiety to me. This morning I discovered that someone stole my wheelie bin. Ive spent the whole day doing self talk to remind myself that it was probably just a random act, not someone trying to sift through my rubbish to get information about me and my family!
If anxiety can make my muscles twitch and jerk on their own, im sure it can make your mind play tricks on you.
