Time slows down

Sometimes time slows down and when it does it's like torcher, there is nothing but me and my anxiety.

I've tried colouring, painting, ice (the frozen kind), exersize, music, shower, nintendo, cooking, mindfulness, cleaning and a few other things.

Nothing is helping, there is just so much time to fill. I have tried ringing psych befor and speaking with my clinician but they don't seam to take me seriously and it hasn't helped yet.

I want so much for this to stop.

I need sugestions of ways to fill time, I'm running out of ideas.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Hi ontheborder, welcome to the forums and thank you for posting.

I am sorry to hear you haven't found those techniques helpful. What I do suggest for you is to visit your GP for a professional diagnosis, and then they will be able to refer you to the appropriate specialist.

Are you employed or studying? Getting a job is a great way to not only become financially stable, but it will give you a sense of purpose. There are also lots of both long and short term courses you can do in just about anything that takes you fancy! Google 'open2study' and 'coursera' for some fantastic free online courses that you can do at home, and they'll spice up your resume (as well as learning something).

I hope I've been able to be helpful to you, please don't hesitate to explore the website for other tips and advice that could help you. Stay strong!

Thanks Crystal,

I have an official diagnosis, well 3- OCD, BPD and complex PTSD.

Currently I see the GP weekly, have therapy weekly, psychologist monthly, psychiatrist monthly and am looking to start EMDR.

I am also taking an SSRI which helps with the overall level of anxiety but not much else.

I was studying but that became to difficult because of the OCD, the online study is a good suggestion that might be a something that I could do or try at least.

I just get so tired sometimes of constantly needing to be doing things.

It's so hard not to give in to the one thing that I know will make me feel better, the only way I have of getting some rest and making time return to normal.

What is it that you are referring too in the last sentence of your second post? Perhaps you need to find pursuits that are designed to do more than just fill your time.  You may be skimming over the surface of things without really investing enough time to fully appreciate what they may have to offer.                                                                      You said you have tried mindfulness. Mindfulness is something that you need to develop and that takes time. I do it regularly, and have done so for many years, and I still have to remind myself that I need to develop it further.           It may help if you seek ways of managing your time rather than fleeing from it.  I assume that there are things that interest you. Identify them and make a commitment to spend a certain amount of time on each of them daily. Don't skim over them and immediately look around for another diversion. If you do that then you will be forever chasing shadows.                                                                     Meditation and relaxation can be of great value if you commit yourself to doing either or both.                                   What is it makes you feel that you constantly need to be doing things? If your are running away from the anxiety that you feel then you will not escape it anymore than an alcoholic can run away from his desire to drink.               Life must be confronted. If you run from something then you are running towards it because it is within you.         You are getting plenty of therapy and am on medication so perhaps you also need to just let time pass and bring to those encounters as much understanding of yourself that you can. Try doing nothing regardless of how hard it is, and I know how hard that can be from my own experience, and become aware of what is happening, of what you are feeling. Stay with the anxiety and confront it because it to do otherwise nourishes it and allows it control your life. I wish you well in your efforts. Philip.
