Positive, possibly crazy things to do to overcome anxiety

Hi. Thought it would be fun to share some crazy fun things have done to overcome anxiety. I have only started this week but will let you know how progees.

I get morning anxiety, so starting every day hunming 'Zippity-do-da' song every time worrisome thoughts. The song lyrics are so positive. Try it!

I am trying to eat more Spinach. Apparently Anxiety sufferers are often low in folate, so trying a folate rich/legume rich diet.

I find playing a musical instrument helps. Difficult to play and worry about things.

Maybe if you have some favourite positive things to add that may help others distract

Overcome Anxiety by sacrificing Attention (to it)

Hello Traveller

Good to me you and what a great idea. Not sure if my actions come into the crazy category but here goes.

Meditation. As you said you cannot worry about things and meditate.

Put ABC FM Classics radio on when I get up. Great music and great morning presenters. Love the choc top segment - a piece of music from the films.

Eat breakfast. Not crazy enough? Eating helps me to start getting my act together for the day. The longer I don't eat, the more anxious I get.

Have a shower and get dressed. The shower is life-giving and getting dressed tells me I am ready for the world and the day ahead.

I would love to start with a song and dance routine but have been that energetic in my life.

Hi Traveler

Thanks for the great post!

I didnt know that about folate! Thanks for the tip....I might check on my levels

Music is one of the 'keys' to the soul where healing yourself is concerned...Nice1 Traveler 🙂

Mary...ABC FM Classics....I have never had it on...I might try that for a change....(currently on 3AW Talk Radio for a distraction)

A shower is life-giving....even better with strong water pressure 🙂

Cheers & Kind Thoughts

Hi Traveller,

Those are some great ideas! I've heard from friends who experience anxiety that playing a musical instrument helps them. I've never had the patience to learn them haha.

I definitely agree with Mary's suggestion of having a shower and getting dressed!

In the morning on the way to uni I like listening to podcasts, lately I either listen to Serial (a crime based podcast) or Not Too Deep (more of a comedy podcast) - I usually decide which one based on how much I feel like I'll be able to concentrate, or what my mood is like, but overall it's a good distraction for when I have some quiet time that my mind could otherwise wander into dark places.

Another thing I do, which might be a bit crazier, is imagining scenarios where I'm hanging out with either celebrities I like, or tv show characters, for example I'll picture myself being in a scene of a show and how I'd react there.

Inositol.  Natural sugar found in foods like cantaloupe, beans, oranges. Our bodies don't get enough from food so you can buy it from health food stores.

Be conscious about looking after your body and mind with good foods.  I find that if I feel I'm trying my best it helps.

exercise. I don't do any but I try to keep busy, have something to focus on..like pairing my house.

these are not crazy things I know.  Sometimes I make up silly songs and do silly dances with my "almost 3" year old.

Hi,

what a great post, Im all about the alternative treatments. Im currently have a mix between acupuncture and kinesiology treatment. Prefer the kinesiology and highly recommend it. Ive just started taking magnesium as it helps with the functioning of our nervous system. Increasing my seratonin levels naturally is another Im going to try. EFT tapping (emotional freedom techniques) is extremely helpful when im in a state of panic or fear and repeating helpful postive mantras. eg... Even though I am fearful of .......... I love and forgive myself completely.... or Even though my fears are high I love and accept myself completely... It really does help.

what a great topic! 😊😁 I love it!

I agree with the whole listening/playing instruments and music theme & also getting up- feeling fresh from the shower & get dressed up in your clothes; be it stylish, comfortable, whatever makes you feel good about yourself and the day ahead 🙂

started putting the radio on really loud & singing along a few years ago with my ex ... it was then I discovered that we both really like to change the words!!

Our personal favourite was to change the words to make fun of my old colleagues from my previous job (who I obviously didn't like very much) LOL

Or just making it plain RUDE!

no amount of censoring in the world would  make our versions of thesepopular songs even close to being appropriate to share anywhere outside of my own home, but they're not for anyone else, there for me to have a chuckle about before I have to start my day and be serious at work ...

sometimes the freedom to be silly and not have anyone around (with the added bonus of not getting in to trouble) can improve your mood & help alleviate sympyoms of anxiety.
