Hi guys

ive never done this before but thought why not can't hurt right? Well I've just been diagnosed I guess with severe anxiety, been hospitalised 4 times each time I honestly thought I was having a heart attack absolutely horrendous feeling ! But each time every test comes back negative of anything serious, should be relieved right? Yep I am but why and how do I stop this happening? It comes on all of a sudden and my heart rate hits about 130 , nauseous, pins and needles sweats you name it . I have a fantastic home life , great friends and I love my job except I'm constantly excluded and treated as I'm incompetent which I'm not ! So any ideas on how to manage this ? I'm currently trying meditation, ive started the ball rolling by starting a mental health plan with my dr and will begin seeing a psychologist but until then any ideas or suggestions I'm all ears!

p.s apologies for the long winded intro I like to talk 😊

Hi Aliceinwonder

Thankyou for posting and for being a Newbie Alice! If the forums didnt have new members they would cease to exist

I understand your symptoms and yes they are bad news. When our adrenaline is pumping too hard the symptoms we have are a direct result of an over stimulated/tired mind

These symptoms are very common Alice....and there is usually something happening in our background that may have helped these awful symptoms occur in the first place

Good News! The symptoms of severe anxiety do reduce with frequent ongoing therapy (counseling) 🙂

Just from my own severe anxiety.....I learned that the earlier its treated the better our recovery. (except that I didnt follow that advice..unfortunately)

You are not alone Alice

Great to have you as part of the forum family!

Thanks for your reply and support ! Baby steps but definitely in the right direction it can be overwhelming at times and not everyone understands or has time to listen I'm glad I landed in the right place !

Thanks and yes I feel I'm heading in the right direction slowly but eventually will get there , I appreciate any and all advice as we all have a common goal in the support and guidance of one another it all helps regardless how much or how little we give , time is a valuable gift 😊

Please ask your Psychologist to teach you Assertiveness & Mindfulness exercises. These are two of the most crucial tools a person can have and most do not. When I learnt these and applied them on a consistent basis, my life changed massively in that I am in charge of how I feel and can see any potential triggers well before they arrive. I have also given up cigarettes, alcohol, caffeine and MOST importantly, sugar. Routine is essential as is diet and exercise. You will find in time, the need to be liked by everybody goes away. In conversations, it is important to listen and take turns, allow others to talk without butting in or finishing their conversations. Good luck and please request the assertiveness & mindfulness from your psych. I cannot stress enough the importance of these two essential 'tools'. All the very best for the future, sincerely C.O

Thanks for the advice ! I definitely need help when it comes to being more assertive and speaking up for myself , I tend to get walked all over and taken advantage of which I'm aware that I control this . I'm getting better but all I'm looking for is some acknowledgement and inclusion from my work colleagues rather than being excluded constantly and unappreciated in my contributions. One step at a time !!!
