Hi,
Im brand new to the forums but have been battling with a severe anxiety and panic attacks for the last two weeks or so.
I believe this all started with my problems with sleep that was becoming a big point of anxiety for me before I got these full blow attacks.
I saw my doctor regarding sleep and the anxiety who tried a few natural methods before prescribing medication for sleep which was a terrible choice for me as I reacted very bad to the medication such as uncontrollable crying, heightend panic and anxiety as well as the feeling of being "out of it" I came off the medication after 3 days but still have the heightened panic and anxiety.
I am married with a happy life where I enjoy my workplace and hobbies but when I get these waves of panic and anxiety I lose all care and feel trapped and that I won't ever get rid of this feeling.
I have found beyond blue online chat to be invaluable and really like what I have read of some of these forums and how supportive everyone is.
I feel I have become more accepting of my panic/anxiety over the last week but still struggle day to day.
I just want to know that it gets better and that I should keep at it. Medication is a last resort for me.

Mich hi welcome ☺
Good you've looked around & seen what an amazing supportive place it is here
Sorry you're having such a rough time of it, do you know what it is that pulls you down & makes you anxious? I find it helps if we know what the cause is to from there work out what can be done to change or work through
Have you tried distraction techniques like when you feel it coming on look around & think about anything else except how you're feeling, also you might have heard about concentrating on your breathing too, try not to let the anguish take over, just focus only on breathing calmly & steadily, tell yourself you'll be ok
Something thats worked for me in past, had a handful of majors is hard self talk, acknowledge without responding to feelings of oh god im scared (which it is i know) but say firmly in very matter of fact way, no nonsense it's anxiety & I'm NOT HAVING IT, then focus on breathing. It works truth, be firm though
Yes i think it's stress outlet & tiredness carries enormous stress & or depression but i don't know but sounds like you've got goods happening so could be as you said sleep deprivation.
Yes keep working at it hun, Imo it can be controlled cause it's our responses to thoughts that cause negative emotions avalanching
All best darl, theres threads about tips for anxiety too don't know if you've seen them
Also excercise is a great stress release
Let us know how you go
You'd be surprised at how we listen & respond to the hard talk ☺

Hi Tc,
Thanks so much for your post and suggestions. Its all so new to me and quite scary when it comes on as i feel a lose all control of how i want to feel and act.
I feel like i have improved this week so i will give myself more time to cope and regain some confidence naturally.
Thanks again
Mich
