Been diagnosed a year and now gradual anxiety. I would like to talk to anyone else with Hashimotos and how they cope with the anxiety it brings.

hi and welome. My wife has Hashimotos and is on medication.

What anxiety is it causing you?

(All I can say at the moment is that my wife does all she can to be healthy. It helps if you around you are supportive also.)

I hope you will come back to share more of your story.

Hi canucky I may not have hashimotos but I do have two other autoimmune diseases: coeliac disease & GORD (the autoimmune disease side of acid reflux) so I know what it’s like to have an autoimmune disease. And I may not be diagnosed with anything yet but I see a psychologist who she’s mentioned to me I have clinical depression, social anxiety and general anxiety but who knows what else at this stage.

Hi Smallwolf

Sorry to hear about your wife's diagnosis.

I have been to two endocrinologists and they didn't prescribe me with anything in fact the last one said to me "there are worst things you could be diagnosed with"???? Wow huh? I think i want to persue other avenues before looking at medication.

Anyways my fantastic GP is helping me with this and i will be seeing other specialists soon. I guess the anxiety is from the other symptoms associated with Hashimotos like tinnitus, full feeling in ears, swelling of the thyroid, sometimes hard to swallow and uncomfortable sleeping on one side. Also sleep apnea is related to Hashimoto's.

How is your wife going with the medication?

Hi Mocha delight

Sorry to hear about your issues. Its so hard dealing with stuff like this and i am glad your getting help with your depression and anxiety. I am sure once you get the right diagnosis you will find it easier to manage.

Anxiety makes our issues 10 times worse as i am finding out now. I have taken up meditation and found this very helpful. I am also learning to worry more about myself than everyone else!

hi small wolf

Sorry for your wife's diagnosis. Support is very important. She is lucky to have you.

My main anxiety is having a second opinion tell me ....you could have worst things to be diagnosed! But also the other symptoms that can come from Hashimoto's. For example, tinnitus getting worse, full ears ( meniere's disease) having swallowing problems, pressure on the throat when the thyroid is enlarges, blood pressure and anxiety. I have had a battery of tests and will be going through a bit more and together with my GP will work out a plan to live with it.

I hope your wife's symptoms arent too bad.

looking forward to managing this issue 🙂

How do you guys cope?

Hi Canucky,

I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s in 2017. I also suffer with anxiety & depression but I don’t think they are linked as I have had anxiety my entire life. But I do hear & read lots about there being a link.

In regards to anxiety treatment, I take meds, I do Cognitive Behaviour Therapy with a psychologist, will be starting Dialectical Behaviour Therapy in Feb & trying to teach myself to look at alternative scenarios rather than the worst case scenario (which I always tend to do).

Have a look online for mindfulness tips, they can help too
