Hi guys, it's really nice to be here.
I'm 32, suffering from depression, anxiety and OCD all my life, tried almost every pill the world has to offer, nothing helped, all of them cause severe damage, especially the one that does help a little - SSRI.
I've been off meds for almost 2 years now, and decided I'm stooping to be a lab rat, waiting for a real game changer in this field to come, my doctor always said that this won't happen and we stuck with the same garbage meds that we have today for another 100 years.
But I think he is just radical. I do understand that new solutions are in development all the time. so, I want to ask you, are there any real new meds available or soon to be, that are not in any way connected to the conventional drugs that have been available for decades?
I'll be happy to hear, I feel like I'm not happy since I'm off meds and I'm in some kind of apathetic mood and not enjoying anything in life. ony suffers.
Thanks.

Hi, I am sorry you are not finding enjoyment it life. I am also in that at the moment. I don't know of any new meds. However have you considered seeing a naturopath, functional doctor or other people who look outside the box of conventional medicine.
There is a connection to what we choose to eat as well affecting our mental health. Including gut health, which is somehow connected to our brains. I don't know the science clearly about that at the moment, just learning about it myself. Serotonin levels are connected to gut health too.

Hi Tomi1000,
Im sorry you are feeling this way.
I understand anxiety and OCD I suffered with this severely until I received the correct treatment.
I have now recovered.
I was put on a antidepressant and did a therapy that was designed as an intervention into the OCD.
Are you aware of what your OCD cycle is?
There are many stages of our OCD cycle that hold us in it but once we learn what they are we can disengage from them.
We aren’t our minds we are the observer of our minds once we learn this concept we can observe our cycle from above it and choose not to interact with it….. just watch it.
You too can be free of anxiety and OCD.

Hi Tomi1000
Whether your doc's right about the next 100 years, maybe so. You can bet companies are working on the Holy Grail of meds right now. With these pharma companies starting to feel a tad nervous, as some of their biggest sellers relate to blood pressure, mood stabilisers, nervous system and immune system function etc, they observe the naturopathy industry rapidly expanding along with the yoga, meditation, massage, adventure, self help etc industries. More people are starting to look to what may make some difference to their systems and ways of thinking outside of conventional medicine.
While I'm more a soulful kind of gal, I recognise 'feelings' can also be seen from the perspective of chemical reactions you can literally feel taking place (chemical energy in motion or a lack of it). With Petal22 mentioning CBT, therapy that works with how the physical and mental interact and with Guest_1055 mentioning gut-brain axis, research into these areas is fascinating. 'Mood and Food' research (gut-brain link) is currently having millions of dollars pumped into it because of strong links to anxiety and depression. A lot of significant chemistry production/disruption begins in the gut. Vagus nerve's another great area of research.
During my years in long term depression (from around 19 to 35) no GP or specialist ever suggested 'Research how you tick'. From 35 'til now, at 52, I have to say the education's been truly amazing. Biologically, chemically, mentally and naturally, we're such complex fascinating creatures.
Naturally, to feel easily and deeply comes with a lot of challenges. When people ask 'How are you feeling?', tempting to say at times 'Well, today I'm feeling my thoughts, beliefs and people's words through my nervous system, so be careful what you say to me'.
