Increasing anxiety

Hi this is my first time posting so here goes. I have had anxiety for years. I saw a great psychologist about 15 years ago and worked hard to get back to better, I was also prescribed anti depressants at the time . I've since hit the wall again ten times whose then I could have imagined. I have burn out from working in the human services industry on top of my pre existing anxiety disorder. I saw my gp who put me on anti depressants and I started seeing the same psychologist again. I feel like I'm getting worse not better. I've had to quit my job and I haven't really left the house for two weeks, prior to that I only left the house to see the psychologist. I'm so anxious I can't sit down thought the day. My partner has had to take on the majority of the care for our three year old. My dad is currently in hospital and my anxiety is so high I've only been able to visit him for half and hour every second day and that has made me feel so ashamed. My partner looks exhausted from my anxiety and has on occasion had to come home early because I've had a panic attack and felt like I was going to go crazy. I need to have a medication review with my gp but I feel too anxious to attend an appointment. I try to use some tools my psychologist has helped me develop but in the last two weeks I find these don't help. I feel like every day is ground hog day and worry I will not get back to better again. Has anyone one else felt this bad and managed to get back to better ?

Hi Discovery 77,

Welcome to Beyond Blue and to the Community here. I am wondering if you have read any of the posts under "Anxiety" as your story is so much like so many others posted there.

If you read some of those, you may be able to find some answers and ways to help yourself.

Have you tried phoning the Beyond Blue help line and talking with someone there when you are home alone and feeling so anxious? People who answer the phones have so much knowledge and great suggestions, they will be able to help you.

Is it possible for you to have a rest in hospital for a couple of days or a week? Do you have a relative who could come and stay and help until you are feeling stronger?

It sounds like you really do need to keep up with the Doctor and psych appointments.

Try to find ways to stop the anxiety before it progresses to far and chat with your Dr about the idea of a short stay in hospital, it may really help you.

I hope some of this has been beneficial for you!

Cheers for now from Mrs. Dools

Hi Discovery77, at one stage I remember avoiding going to the supermarket (basically out in public) for fear of what might happen. I have since overcome all my anxieties.

What is it that you're actually worried about

What is it that makes you anxious?

What beliefs do you hold onto?

What have you made things mean about your world or about yourself?

Ask yourself some great questions and bring about awareness as to why you're thinking the way you are. Awareness is huge in making change.

If you can give me the context of a situation that makes you anxious and what you're actually worried about I can help further.

I am feeling the same way & am off to the dr tomorrow to start my progression again. I am still working but for how long I am not sure. I have 2 children but I am on my own. Hope you get some answers. It could be the wrong pills.
