This is basically my dream job, but it requires to learn a new software and I am so afraid of not being able to learn it fast enough...
I just want to relax and be positive but all I think of is this event is coming up and I can't relax the weeks I have off now before I start...I could use some encouragement or some words of advice to calm down maybe?

I am definitely in the same boat in terms of feeling, but one must never forget the reason why they were hired in the first place and can always pick up the new software in due time. So you've got this; just trust in yourself and go slow!

hi, thank you so so much for the reply! And I wish you all the best as well in your new job! I guess I am always pressuring myself because in all honesty, we say we should take it easy but in reality, managers or bosses only really care about you learning fast so you stop making mistakes and be efficient...I worry still I am never fast enough for some managers and it drives me crazy.

Hi Jessksch
I wish people (managers included) acknowledged how we all learn in different ways and at different paces. While I watch people being trained in my work environment, it leaves me scratching my head at times when it comes to how impatient some work colleagues can be. Then there are the rest of us who reassure 'Time and practice will have you performing like a pro. Up 'til then, consider yourself as being in the process of learning'. Some people tend to have short memories, easily forgetting what it was like when they first started.
Sometimes, depending on what it is we're learning, there can be a need to acknowledge 'What is my learning style?'.
- Do I learn best through observation, watching someone else show me what to do?
- Do I learn well through simple written instruction or can I learn through both simple and complex written instruction?
- Do I learn best through a compassionate employee showing me what to do (learning through low levels of stress) or am I able to still learn easily through high levels of stress while the employee who's training me is completely intolerant towards me?
- Do I learn best through lots of note taking or do I have a photographic memory and can easily visualise everything I've been shown
and the list goes on.
Personally, I'm a gal who learns best through being shown what to do by a compassionate person who offers simple instruction while I take notes, so that I can go over them and familiarise myself with the process (a bit of homework).
Just like with a computer, the computer/processor in our head has to have 'a new program' or 'software' loaded into it for us to reference. Whether that relates to the software in a new job or the software of a new belief system or way of seeing ourself, it can take some time and we need to be kind and patient toward ourself in the process.
