I don’t like speaking to profession’s I’m not too sure about. Gp’s, counsellors, I know what there about and how they can help but beyond blue I’m not sure. I know nothing of this organisation as it’s only my second time on this site.

Im nervous and feel useless that I have to talk to somebody I don’t know in order to get advice about my sever anxiety. I think, will they be judgemental are they going to laugh afterwards do they take there job seriously and are they going to be compassionate all these thoughts cross my mind.

but I know I really need to speak to someone 😩 how did anybody go with making there first initial phone call.

Dear Anxiety overwhelmed

Thank you for writing in here. I think you have done well to join the forum and start your own thread. Many people find this hard for much the same reasons you have mentioned about phoning beyondblue. This is a safe place to be and there are many who will understand how you feel having been in the same place.

First I want to say scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the links about beyondblue. This will let you know why this organisation exists and what its about. It has been around for a while. This forum just gets bigger with so many people wanting to connect with others about their mental health issues. There is no judgement on the forum or from those at the other end of the phone.

If you would like to continue writing here please feel free. It's another way to talk about your difficulties and perhaps will be more comfortable for a while. When you are ready to talk to the beyondblue help line you may be less nervous. Be assured, no one will laugh at you or be judgement in any way. They will be compassionate and they most certainly take their job seriously. Beyondblue has a good track record of offering help to anyone who needs it.

I hope this makes you feel less nervous and helps you to make the phone call and/or continue to write in here.

Hi Anxiety overwhelmed,

Thanks for reaching out to us, and voicing your concerns. It can be really scary talking to someone you don’t know about what you’re dealing with. However, it seems like a call line is a good option for you, since you do not feel comfortable talking to people you’re not sure about. One great thing is that you are completely anonymous, and can divulge as much or a little information as you decide with the comfort of the person not knowing who you are. Another great thing is that anyone who works at Beyond Blue chose that job because they want to help others. They are there to listen non-judgmentally and are available day and night, which is also great for those who need a listening ear in the middle of the night. As White Rose mentioned, it might also be a good idea to explore the website, and see what other people’s experiences of calling are.

Good luck!
