Hi everyone,
My doc suggested to come here yesterday. I'm 5 weeks pregnant and have just started casual work in dentistry. I've worked in the field for a long time but it causes me huge amounts of anxiety 😞 I need to be very careful about stress and high BP, my first baby was stillborn last year due to preeclampsia. Part of me wants to just give it up for baby's sake but I don't want to run away from it. I want to face it. If anyone has any advice I would be very grateful. Thank you

Hi LizzieBaby,
Welcome to the forum. It is great to seeing you reach out here to get support during your pregnancy. Congratulations on your pregnancy. This must be very exciting . I am very sorry to hear of you losing your child due to preeclampsia. This would be incredibly difficult to endure. Be kind to yourself during this very special time.
There is a lot of great support on the beyondblue forum around anxiety and there are many strategies that you could undertake to help your anxiety. I will list a few suggestions.
I am not sure if you have heard of a practice Mindfulness? It can help you to stay in the moment and reduce worry for some people. You could try reading about this by downloading an app called Smiling Mind or using the search feature above to look up 'Mindfulness' on this site. There are lots of posts as well as resources available.
Another resource I will make you aware of is a site called Perinatal Anxiety & Depression Australia (PANDA). . You can visit the website on https://www.panda.org.au where there are many resources. The support line of PANDA is available Monday to Friday 9am - 730pm on 1300 726 306. Don't hesitate to reach out to this service as you have gone through such a difficult time previously and talking to someone may be helpful to reduce your stress and worry.
I also wonder if you have discussed your health concerns with your employer and seeing if you could make a plan to reduce your hours or have some more support at work when you are there? I understand this is difficult when you are casually employed but they may be able to help.
Having some 1:1 support towards working on you anxiety might also be another option. You could try to connect with a free program called NewAccess. It is a program developed by beyondblue and is for people with low mood and worry. It is only available in some parts of Australia but you could look it up on the website to see if it is available in your area. https://www.beyondblue.org.au/get-support/newaccess
Finally, if you are interesting in doing a course online - you could look at a program called Mindspot. This program is for people with anxiety or depression and has several courses available if you are over 18. You can have a look at this free service here https://mindspot.org.au
If you are need more direction in managing your anxiety, I encourage you to go back to your GP.
Wishing you the best possible outcome,
Nurse Jenn
