GAD tiredness and symptoms

hi guys, this is my 1st post on here. To cut a long story short after many tests I was diagnosed with severe anxiety almost a year ago now and am currently on medication. This came completely out the blue and still struggle to this day looking for answers as to why I now have this as dont feel anxious at all!!

My question to u all is this.......I suffer more from the physical symptoms of anxiety rather than the emotional side and they are driving me insane. They range from tight chest, unbalanced, weakness, tiredness and achy muckes especially my shoulders and neck. However I feel they are 10x worse when Iv had a bad nights sleep or run down with a cold or something. These synptoms will then linger for a good few weeks then start to reside again then start up again as soon as somethings happened again to make me tired!

I am so over feeling like this, especially after almost a year. I suppose Im looking fot people who experience similar things as I keep thinking my doctor is missing something even though i had numerous blood tests, brain mri and been to an ENT about my balance!!

please help!

Thanku so much,

Kel

kel32,

I get the physical symptoms also. Add "lump in the throat".

The first time I saw my psychiatrist, she asked me about how I slept. I told her that I constantly woke up in the night thinking about work, and then unable to get back to sleep.

She told me then about sleep hygiene. Dumb term. Her words, not mine. But they actually worked. The big thing for me was not drinking coffee after 4pm. Additionally, I have empty my brain before sleep via a guided meditation or similar. So rather than going to sleep with thoughts about work in my head, I can go to sleep with, say, the sounds of birds in the forest.

Next trick.... do you have any distraction and coping tools? Do you meditate? If you think back to when you were last anxious, what happened immediately before that? Can you identify a trigger? Could write an entire post on this but will stop here.

You said that you think your doctor is missing something. Have you had your iron/ferritin levels checked? I am being treated as if I have haemochromatosis because my ferritin level were high. It has symptoms of depression, anxiety, mood swings, irritability, etc.

So I sort of know what you are going through, and the hard part is working out the cause to it all. Of course, all of the above is based on my experiences with a GP, psychologist, psychiatrist, and other specialists and the doctor who takes blood out of me (for haemochromatosis).

I hope you get something from my post,

Tim

Hi Kel,

Welcome to the forums 😊 It's a great place here full of great supportive people!

I too was recently diagnosed with GAD and I was only showing physical symptoms, mostly muscle tension (to the point of not being able to move an arm!), headaches, not being able to fall asleep etc.

Does the medication help with your physical symptoms? How long have you been on them? If your medication isn't helping, have you thought about talking about it with your GP?

Physical symptoms are definitely a sign of anxiety though. I never thought they were either and it's what brought me to the forums myself.

My advise is to talk to your gp about it more. Book a double appointment and discuss your physical symptoms and how they're not going away. I did this with my gp and it really helped.

Keep me up to date with how things go!

Kind regards,

Lici

Hi kel32,

I get muscle tension in my head, neck and shoulders as a result from my anxiety. It is very frustrating and very uncomfortable. I do kind meditation, yoga and deep breathing to help as well as massages and pain killers! But like you, I have GAD so being cnsistent with self-care like the above I mentioned can be hard as I always bail on things to stay in bed 😞
