environmental noise driving me insane

I'm struggling with lack of sleep due to a thumping muffled bass sound in my home. my whole body reverberates - it goes all night - I have tried council, epa sound engineers who are way too expensive for me to engage. I've walked around the neighbourhood but can't locate. Does anyone have any suggestions about what I can do? and yes I've tried earplugs but thumping gets through

This is intriguing.

  • How would you describe the type of sound you hear/feel (regularity, frequency)?
  • Is the reverberation isolated to the house or can you sense it when outside?
  • Is it perceptible during the day or only at night?
  • Can you detect the same sound in different rooms of the house?
  • Could you make a recording of this sound?
  • Are there any construction projects or industries in your area?

I have some background in audio engineering so perhaps we can narrow the field of possible sources.

A warm welcome to you at a time when you're feeling so intensely challenged. The challenges are many, including locating the source, managing your nervous system, trying to gain the sleep you desperately need, dealing with the side effects of sleep deprivation and more. Btw, I love tranzcrybe's sense of intrigue and wonder. Intrigue and wonder can lead to much needed revelations.

Personally, I'm a gal who can't handle the feeling of too much base (the thumping). It can take me to the brink of insanity. Not only can I feel it through my nervous system but it can also make my inner ears itch, which I'd say is due to the impact of the sound on the hairs inside the ear. I actually struggle with ongoing or repetitive sounds (extended periods of bass thumping, taps dripping, dogs barking, clocks ticking etc). I find that if I'm in a position to not be able to manage repetitive sounds, I need to leave the environment I'm in for a break. I'm wondering whether you're able to stay at a friend or family member's place for a couple of nights, just for a break while trying to figure out where the sound energy is coming from. Are you able to give your nervous system a much needed break?

With tranzcrybe's background in audio engineering, it sounds like they could be the best detective for the job when it comes to solving this mystery. I hope it's solved sooner rather than later. I really feel for you.
