Overthinking. How my day can go from go to stop with overthinking and anxiety. How do you get you mind to stop ticking over about the littlest things. Silly things.

From everyday activities to exercise to eating.

How to deal with this.

Hi Janejac,

Welcome to the forums and thanks for posting.

Overthinking is a difficult one and something that I struggle with a lot. One of the biggest strategies in managing overthinking is therapy; as thought-challenging can be a great way to gain some perspective and interrupt the pattern. Are you seeing a therapist at the moment? If not I would encourage you to have a look at thought-challenging behaviours just to get a better understanding of how it works.

Other things that can be helpful can include meditations, mindfulness, breathing exercises, colouring (or any creative work) and exercise. I also like to journal and find this incredibly helpful - I liken it to getting the cobwebs out of my head. Making sure that you have a good support group that you can talk to can also be helpful. I also personally like planners and lists - they help me schedule my day and having that structure can help.

At the end of the day though it's about finding what works for you. Different strategies work for different people. Maybe it might be helpful for you to post what sorts of things you've tried. It may also be helpful to see if there's a trigger for your overthinking - what tends to bring it on or what makes it worse/better.

I hope this helps.

Hi Janejac,

you are definitely not alone and overthinking is one of the biggest things I deal with and am trying to conquer it but I have started to understand I need to see someone so finally booked an appointment with a psychologist, I'm hoping that will help and if you haven't I'd suggest looking into it because it has a lot of benefits from what people have told me regarding over thinking! I suffer from generalised anxiety disorder and overthinking and worrying is big key component of that so I totally feel where you are coming from. I wish you all the best and hopefully you have some luck and can let me know how you go. And I'll do the same.

Ruminating sux! I've suffered from generalised anxiety disorder all my life.

Over time, I've found exercise, mindfulness and Journaling to be helpful.

I hope you can find something that helps you expel and mute those Neverending thoughts

Thank you all for your help and guidance. Your all right and yes i think I need to speak to a professional as anxiety/ overthinking can ruin my whole entire day. Turns me into a mess. I also think the journal is a good idea and will help me work out the triggers. Thank you.
