Coping with medication changes

I started a new job a few months ago and everything was great, until I entered 2 stage of training. My anxiety unleashed hellfire upon me. I cried infront of everyone at work, I almost vomited on my boss. Twice. So my long term GP made the decision to taper me off my old medication over 2 weeks and then immediately start a new one as I've been up and down for a year or 2 on the old medication for 7 years.
I've already taken 5 days off my new job and today my GP wants me to take another week to adjust as the severe physical and mental symptoms I'm experiencing due to the swap are making me completely dysfunctional. Hysterical crying, vomiting, heart racing, can't breathe, sleeping poorly, tremors and a heightened sense of dread in my stomach.
I guess I just want to know im not alone and that taking time away from one of my stresses is the right thing to do. And how much detail I should share with my manager.
If anyone else has experienced something like this, I'd love to hear from you.

Hello Ilikeplants,
A very warm and caring welcome to our forums...
I am so sorry that happened to you...due to your anxiety...
Something similar happened to me...I only do volunteer work though...One day a few years ago we had a meeting about mental health...when I got triggered, started crying and left the meeting...I felt so embarrassed and upset with myself...but it just happened....
After the meeting my boss asked me if I was okay..I said yes and then disclosed to him my mental health problems..He was very understanding and told me to look after me first..my job comes second....I felt relieved that he knew as well as my co workers knowing....It really did help me...knowing that I didn’t have to hide it constantly which I feel really does make me feel worse...
I feel that it’s okay to take time off for your mh..It’s the same as if you had a sickness or virus and had to take time off for that...
I think it is entirely up to you how much you want to share with your manager if you want to share at all...Please try hard to remember and accept that mental health is a real sickness and it’s nothing to be ashamed off..it can happen to anyone at anytime in their lives...
The most important thing is you and your health...If your job is going to cause you so much anxiety..maybe it might be best to rethink your current employment....(just a little something to think about)...
It could the tapering off of your long term meds that is making your anxiety higher then usual and you might need the time off so your body readjusts to your new meds...
Please dear Ilikeplants, Talk here anytime you feel up to it..
My kindest thoughts, with care.
