A little background. I'm of the larger/curvy variety of woman. I've been to gyms on/off since my early teens. I love working out & how I feel afterwards. My current issue is I've gradually put on most, if not all, the weight I previously lost. I have a gym membership but my anxiety stops me from going.
What I mean by stops me from going is it gets to the point where I can't breath & panic sets in. I don't want another PT. It's not so much a waste of money but I don't want to spend it during the pandemic. I'm confident in my ability to organise appropriate exercises.
This is my biggest issue at the moment. I'm absolutely terrified to go. I don't have anyone I can go with & I don't make friends easily. I know I need to lose the weight again as I'm feeling fat. I've managed to shut out some of my closest friends because of my depression & anxiety. It's the fear they'll see me & be shocked at how much weight I've put back on.
This was a massive step for me. It's been an awful 18 months & I need to be able to get on top of things.
Thank you for listening.

I'm also a larger woman and am very uncomfortable and scared about what ppl that knew me when I was thin would think.
I have avoided visiting those ppl for that reason.
I prefer to live in my comfort zone at times.
It's brave of you wanting to go back to the gym. Gyms can be intimidating and confronting. If you don't want a PT you don't have to have one. You are free to spend your time doing what U want to there and if they approach you just say you can't afford it or something.
You could also do your own exercises outdoors. Perhaps that will help you ease back into going to the gym.
If you go for a walk around the block it could aid in calming you before going to the gym.
Sports are also good but with this pandemic I'm not sure what's happening with those?
Anyhow I wish U the best of luck.

Hello,
I know gyms look intimidating at times.... but do you know what? Some of the people in those gyms want to see you succeed in your weight loss challenges...and some people have started just were you are.... 😊 have you ever tried the group fitness classes? They are great.. you can stand at the back if you want to...Also have you tried just diet and exercise? Exercise meaning just a walk or bike ride near your home? You don’t have to go to the gym straight away but maybe work yourself up to it 😊
I know sometimes when you are at the gym you feel like everyone is looking at you..... but they arnt they are busy concentrating on what they are doing.... maybe tell yourself positive things before you go to the gym.....
you enjoy going, you enjoy the way you feel afterwards, you CAN and WANT to loose weight by using the gym..... just go for it..... let go of the fear and embrace the reasons WHY you are going.... go and get your AWSOME body there and then go out and show it off.... because you ARE going to get it 😊 embrace the challenge and believe you CAN do it 😊

Hi Fidget
There is nothing wrong with not going to the gym, I have had an on / off relationship with the gym for years. Waking around your neighbourhood or local park is just as good especially with spring nearly here. In saying this the group classes as mentioned by Petal22 are pretty cool. I isolate a fair bit and also struggle to make friends but there is a large portion of society who I don't believe are all that inviting either. What I learnt over the last 10 years or so is that you really are your own best friend ( so your main concern should be treating yourself well , and take it easy on yourself) so you will no when to hold back and likewise push yourself when you feel the need to do so. This covid situation doesn't help too much either but I did discover a great work out app the other day and have been using it for a week and have really enjoyed it, its called 'Home Workout', you should check it out all exercises can be done from your living room without equipment.
Cheers and take care
Sandro
