For the past 6wks I have had really bad physical symptoms that I just can’t get rid of which has been brought on by a health issue that hasn’t given me any answers...
i have tried meditation, distraction, really strict healthy eating and nothing is working. Usually with a bit of effort I can manage my symptoms.
should I see my GP and ask for some short term medication to help get on top of the symptoms before they spiral even further out of control?
im starting to get quite panicky and it’s consuming my thoughts 24/7.

Hi Sometimes anxious,
That sounds like a very frustrating situation to be in. I have a long term medical condition and have experienced how much having physical health problems impacts mental health. It can be frustrating and exhusting not having answers or easy fixes.
If you don't mind me asking what is the hesitation in asking the GP for something that could ease your symptoms short term? I too have been reluctant sometimes to take medication or to ask for help so I'm asking only for further understanding, with no judgement.
Also what do you think would be the kindest gentlest thing to do for yourself? I ask as it may help you answer your own question.
I wish you the very best and hope you find some relief. Be kind to yourself.
Thank you for posting.

I guess My main concern is that my GP will want me to go on medication long term and for some reason I just don’t want to go down that path again

Dear Sometimesanxious~
I guess in order to give you a reasonable answer it might be helpful for you to know exactly what the problems are.
For example I was popped into hospital with chest pain around three months ago, and it turned out simply being a reaction to stress (I have a long term PTSD/depessson/anxiety condition that decided to manifest itself in a new way). It had manifest itself in all sorts of other ways prior to that, this was a new one. It could have been serious, but was not.
As a general rule any physical ailment should be checked out professionally. While it might be the result of a mental condition, it might not, and trying to soldier on could be the worst thing to do.
I read elsewhere you had post-natal depression a few years back and at that time found meds beneficial. The fact you might be prescribed something now does not necessarily mean it is permanent. Even if it is it can be a minor thing in your life.
It took years but I'm on a regime with therapy and meds that have little in the way of side effects and allows me to live a pretty reasonable life.
Living in fear there is something unknown looming over your head is no way to be. As a mum of a 9 year old I'm sure you have enough on your plate without those symptoms and the misery of uncertainty as well.
I would think the way to ease all that is to take action, see your GP, set it all out and discuss options.
What do you think?
