Breakdown at work...What to do?

5 months ago I was promoted to a higher up position covering a maternity leave contract... I have found it incredibly stressful and am struggling to keep on top of the workload.
I barely sleep through the night and am constantly on edge. I have decided I want to return to my nominal role.
I had a meeting with my boss where I broke down and requested to go back... he was supportive and said he would make enquiries about whether I could go back to my old role and when.
I am in an absolute panic about this decision... how bad it will look... how I've let everyone down 😞 I don't know how to handle this.

Hi DPK, welcome
You've done the right thing.
There could be many reasons why higher up positions are not taken up by some or abandoned by others. Self survival is more important than that role. Mental well being is a priority. Dont feel guilty.
Next visit your GP for a check up and discuss your sensitivity and stress levels.
Take care of yourself. Relax by googling- maharaji sunset and Maharaji the perfect instrument.
And maybe some camping.

Hi DPK,
Thanks for sharing your concerns. I encourage you to NOT be afraid or worried about what others think. I have been affected terribly by a terrible boss & work placed environment & subsequently left in an ambulance. I lost my health & well being due to it but I got a second chance cause it forced me to leave.
Please do not let it affect you to the stage you could get ill with the strain. The warning signs are there for you, if you find it hard to stay in that company doing less stressful duties, do consider trying for another job whilst still there.
Health is wealth! I have paid thousands of dollars to gain my health back but still unable to work. Please look after no one - YOU!
God bless & wish you a wonderful future. I never knew I had the choice to STOP & take another route before I got ill, but now know in everything we have a choice. You owe it to yourself to look after your health & well being, please take the opportunity.
Am starting again as there is a silver cloud of hope in all the darkness & a new future. Let's reach out for it and get out of the mess - we have a choice.
All the best!

Hi DPK ,
i did not know this effected more people than just myself , well obviously I knew but this is interesting to read as I have been going through similar things at work causing me to need five days off as I just could not Cope . Could not stop crying and needed help to sleep . I hope you are working through this I a positive way and that something has been resolved for you . Never feel bad about being open and honest , it sounds like the best thing for you to have done . It is sad that some bosses seem to not have our bests intetests at heart but expect us to nearly sell our soles for our weekly wage . Unfair yes . And I am still struggling with my problem being shoved from role to role with minimal training and expected to cope . All the best x

There's so much pressure to be career focused, working longer hours, doing bigger workloads. I've heard people brag about how they only get 3 hours of sleep a night because they're doing 2 jobs. This is not something to brag about! Living to work rather than working to live. We need balance. Your health is much more important than any job, I'm proud of you that you are putting it first. Why is our culture so fixated on outdoing each other in work loads/hours, how can you be happy when your life revolves around work?
I'm glad you have recognised what you need. It's not uncommon for others to pretend they are ok doing tougher jobs when really it's too much.
