Barely hanging on at work. Help!

I am anyday away now from doing the flight, leaving work completely once again. I have fought my demons, even spoke about them to the managers and now they have put pressure on me and i don't want to go back.

Is there any way a doctor can give me a certificate for this matter, and what are my options? I really do not want to face the pressure. Its not fair that they did this to me after i told them my problems.

Please help with advice if anyone can on what i can do, if i can leave without notice ( i know its not ideal but i feel theres no choice atm)

Please and thankyou

Hi angie26,

Just to clarify, are you wanting to quit your job or just take some time away for leave? I am sure a doctor can write something that will indicate for time off due to mental health reasons. No work place should be putting you under pressure if you have told them what you are going through. Is there a HR department you can speak too?

My best for you,

Jay

You do have rights as an employee. Jay is spot on re HR department. My MHP begins with an incident at work. When I spoke to Mum about it, she said that if time had to be taken off work and had to see a psych, the company would have to pay for it. True or not I will give her the benefit of the doubt. If you google...

Australia companies pay for mental health issues

You will find numerous links about your rights etc.

Your manager is probably under pressure and takes it out on you... Unfortunately.

hi Angie, sorry I'm a bit late but thanks to Jay and Smallwolf who have replied back to you.

I'm sorry that it has come to this situation where managers are now putting too much pressure on you.

I take your comment to mean that you want a doctor's certificate which will indicate that you are too sick to return to work.

The HR Department suggested by Jay is good and if you want to contact a lawyer on a 'no-win, no-fee' then they can decide whether or not you have had unfair trreatment by your managaers. Geoff.

Thankyou everyone for your replies. Means alot when you feel alone and lost. I want to leave work, i cant stand another day there, i spoke about this to my job provider and they said if i quit i wont be able to get back on to centrelink for 12 weeks..... i think thats disgraceful, i have pushed myself so hard and then if i quit because its causing me so much trouble i get punished by them? I will have no money it actually makes my depression and anxiety worse. I dont know what to do, i told a random doctor( my main doctor was away) that i need to quit and he didnt give me a certificate, he referred me to a pysch but didn't give me a certificate to help me leave work i dont know why either.I feel stuck. But thankyou for your time everyone.

If you don't mind me asking (and there is no need to reply)... but ...

can you elaborate on what it is about work that is stressing you out?

additionally, are there career alternative you could pursue?

thankyou for your reply, i will say this, i have explained to my manager my mental health problems, but i was left to manage " a few routines of people" by myself and they were all new and upset. I have to also manage talking to their families and trying to make them happy with their high expectations. On my own it was a nightmare, i dont feel it was safe for them to do that when i told them i have difficulites mentally and talking to families let alone managing a few of the routines on my own.

Also i didnt get my break until 6 hours after i started.

I dont feel that there is a career alternative in this part of work for me.

I have to try and find something else and hope i can manage.

Not sure exactly what you mean exactly by routines but...

Was it a lack of training you received? Sounds like you had questions and nobody to talk to. Sad. I will mull over the rest later.

On the career... I am not recommending this for you... I have been in IT for 25+ years. Now considering TAFE teaching, volunteer infantry, and part time in IT... If possible. I am lucky to have a supportive family

Thats good to hear that you have support and found what works for you... to me this is my help, venting on here, i have problems at home unfortunately, the rest of my family are dealing with their own issues.

Sorry to be so vague, routines i mean, meal times, changing them, assisting them to sleep, taking care of them in everyway, they were all new also and screaming. i barely managed. I felt so stressed and so uncomfortable i wanted to walk out.

Dear Angie26~

Your work does sound most demanding and very stressful. In such an environment it is doubly important that management and staff have a good relationship and that staff feel supported, not left in the lurch.

As you say you have had to leave employment before and have found the practical difficulties of being unemployed and at home were pretty horrible too. Do you think there is any middle ground, with a change of duties, or cutting down your hours as an alternative to walking out?

Unfortunately here is a substantial delay for benefits in most cases, as your Job Provider said.

I'm not sure that your GP could give you a certificate that Centerlink would accept for leaving work, or at least not without a fair number of hassles. It may be he can give you one for sick leave. Do you think it is worth specifically asking your GP about this?

I'm glad you at least have a place to vent, it can help a lot at times.
