Pretty much 20yrs anxiety free then out of the blue a full blown panic attack in the middle of a conference (200+ people).
Extremely debilitating and scary.. not sure what brought it on but had two back to back.
44 yr old male father of 3.. how did i get here??
Manage to compose myself enough to leave the room... been difficult two weeks since.
Recurring attacks in staff meetings, client visits... its been horrible.
So... where to from here?
Anxiety feeds on anxiety so you start to worry about what might occur and that in turn hightens your anxiety.
20ys of public transport... attack on a crouded train WTF!!
Anyway... i feel like sh*te, cant tell anyone and you live in a state of fogg/ stress making it difficult to function at timed.
Curious to know if im not alone with this... and how to regain myself after a poor month if anxiety.
Thanks 👍

dearest strawdog,
if it's anything - please feel comforted that your not alone.
what you're going through, I can relate too to some extent and knowing what you're going through made me feel better because i know that i'm not alone,
like you i am a male, 22 i am however, but having no anxiety (like you not having it for 20 years) and then all of a sudden - it's taking hold out of the blue,
the way you feel i can relate too, i had a past trauma that brought up mine last year and as of late - my anxiety has gotten considerably worse.
i am so sorry that your anxiety is making you feel the way it is, but know that you'll get through this thing - and i really respect you reaching out to this forum,
We can both find the support we need, and know that i'm here for you, and with you throughout our journey through recovery.
mad respect.
cheers,
dee.

Thanks for the reply, sorry to hear of your anxiety mate.
What methods are you using to keep it in check?.
Im finding that when likley situation (meeting, appointments) are due my stress and levels elevate as you worry it will happen... its that worry that actually brings them on!
Extremely discomforting... paralysing in the moment... god knows how ive managed to get through these of late.
Ild love to know what treatment, methods are available... seriously living this way is horrible.
SD.

Hello Strawdog,
If you don't feel comfortable talking to anyone at this time can I suggest you have a look at the BB Anxiety section.
At the bottom of the page is a section "The Facts" - if you click on 'Anxiety' it has a variety of coping strategies you can try, as well as a lot of useful info related to Anxiety. Trying to deal with these things by yourself can be hard, can I recommend talking to your GP as a starting point. GP's do deal with mental health & can they can help.
Please let us know how you are doing if you feel up to it.
Best wishes

HI Strawdog,
Feel for you bud my story is much the same - Im 49 2 kids and i had been free from anxiety for years - been back for a liitle while now and am working my way through it. Exercise is a real key for me - makes me tired so i sleep and function better. I use my kids as motivation to keep going as i want the best for them. I dont think people with anxiety give them self enough raps - How strong are we that we keep fighting this struggle. Take care mate and know that you are not alone!

Hi Strawdog,
it’s so hard and frustrating isn’t it. I’m a 34yr mum of two and I had mild anxiety when I was younger but nothing like what I’ve suffered for the past couple of months.
Im still struggling some days, we’ll lets be honest, most days, but my kids are definitely a distraction and keeping busy. A busy life leads to a less busy mind in my case.
I hope you get some relief soon!
