Anxiety will always be part of my life

I have come to the realisation that anxiety will always be part of my life whether I like it or not. No matter what I try and do to make it better it will be there like an old friend. The hardest part is accepting this and managing it. So at the moment I am trying everything I can therapy, exercise, medication. I guess trying to find what works. My question is what works for you and how do manage anxiety long term?

Hi Lone.

Well i guess its different for everyone. I’m of the same conclusion that i will have this for the rest of my life.

So, the medication is a big help, sometimes it takes a while to find the right one, and the right dose, but the doctor will help with that.

seek some professional help. I have found a psychologist Is better than a psychiatrist (my opinion only based on my experience) I spent 6 months going to a fortnightly session, which helped quite a lot, learning the skills to cope, and to identify the triggers.

identify your triggers. Once you know your triggers you can work on ways to deal with them, or remove yourself from a situation (though sometimes you have to push through.

have the strength to push yourself. Sometimes the anxiety can be so bad that it makes you think you cant, but YOU CAN BECAUSE YOU ARE STRONGER THAN YOU THINK!!!

dietary changes. Reduce coffee and tea intake, drink a glass of water instead.

Music or meditation sounds can have a positive influence on your body.

there are loads of different strategies you can use, some will come naturally, some will be foreign. Some will work for you, some wont. Find what works for you.

having some sort of support network (family or friends, BB community etc.) can help too.

For me, I still get anxiety from time to time, especially when i have had a bad night sleep. In the beginning i had to remove myself completely from project that were major triggers. I can deal with these projects now. Sometimes removing myself from the situation temporarily to do some breathing exercises, or doing something different like getting a drink of water helps.

i sometimes listen to relaxation music (lo fi beats) when i feel the anxiety coming on.

they wont work immediately, but if you work on it, they begin to do wonders.

i hope you can find the sweet spot that helps you to cope. These things you learn will be helpful going forward, and you may be able to help someone with the same anxieties.
