hi everyone
was just wondering if any has had anxiety come on strong for a few days after drinking ? or anyones opinions on drinking and anxiety ? and drinking with a/d's i know there is a lot of variation on effects on people.
a little bit of background i had generalised panic attacks and anxiety then was put on medication and has been helpful but on some days usually saturdays or sundays (it starts ) then feel waves of anxiety and funny feelings in my head almost numb or something also feel like there is nothing more i can do and none can help because I'm already on the pills etc.
I'm wondering if alcohol could make these things happen the gp said a few drinks should be safe but i should not get very intoxicated, he also said sometimes i might have bad days but i fell like I'm going back wards and freak out when these things happen. sometimes these feelings have happened out of nowhere but seems to be a pattern with drinking. i have been taking it very easy and have cut down drinking to very little but being a young male tradesperson a lot of events/ socialising revolve around drinking and i do enjoy having a few beers or going out .i have never relied on drinking to stop stressing only because i enjoy it
sorry for the long story
thanks everyone

Hi Brad01, welcome to the forums. This is quite a commonly discussed issue - you might find this thread helpful:

I am beyond doubt that excessive alcohol aggravates PTSD which is an extreme anxiety disorder.
I get fed up with all of the responsibility on my shoulders and juggling all of my own stuff that maybe 5 times a year, at social stuff, I let my hair down with abandon.
2 or 3 glasses of wine out at dinner won't aggravate it to a point that I notice any real difference.
But more than that and I pay. Big time.
Alcohol is inflammatory and I am utterly convinced PTSD may have a bit to do with something inflammatory in the gut or around the other pipes and tunnels I house in this here bod-ee.
Even if you do use alcohol to relax and chill out, don't shame yourself because you will just feed your loop of arousal.

Hi Brad,
welcome to the forums.
my anxiety flares up when I drink, purely because I think alcohol changes your way of thinking, like they say can make you happy or sad... Mine is more health related, like I panic I'm damaging my liver by drinking, so I understand your concern and especially being on meds, it doesn't help when you combine that with Alcohol. It's a tough pattern.
Are you seeing someone regarding your anxiety? Are you finding ways to manage it when you aren't drinking, or does it really only flare up during drinking?
my best for you.
Jay
