i tried to talk to my bf a month ago about my gender identity issues and he made a joke out of it. i don’t think he views my gender issues or even sexuality as a serious matter. i‘ve just kind of pretended it didn’t hurt

Hi anon_1475,

I'm sorry about your boyfriend's reaction and how it has affected you.

There are great communities online supporting members of the LGBTQI+ community. The best ones I am aware of include https://qlife.org.au/ and qheadspace for young people here: https://headspace.org.au/our-impact/campaigns/lgbtiqaplus/

Hope that helps. Please feel free to share more and keep us updated.

Bob

Hi anon_1475.
I faced a similar situation - my mother repeatedly hurt me (psychologically) by rejecting and opposing my gender identity. I eventually got to a point where I got up the courage to tell her how much her actions were hurting me. The situation between us has improved since this time, although she still frequently deadnames and misgenders me, sometimes refusing to correct herself. I think this may be due to her grieving the loss of the person she used to now. I'm now being more considerate and focussing on (being grateful for) the times where she is supportive of me.
