i am a gay man in my late 40's . I suffer from severe depression and anxiety for most of my life , i struggle to keep any relationships or friends and every day really is a struggle. I recently got made redundant and it really has just destroyed me i have been to interviews and i just freeze and just cant talk in one i even cried and i just feel at the moment that there is not much left to live for i feel like i have hit rock bottom and do not know what to do.

i just dont know what to do , i have no one to talk to and just dont know where to turn have been to the Gp and he can only suggest talking to someone but i really find that so hard. Am i just weird can anyone suggest something .

Welcome to the beyondblue forums. Sorry you feel you have hit rock bottom. I know what that feels like. I think you know by what you have written in your post that you need some help.

I cannot understand why your doctor is not being prepared to offer you alternative therapies. My partner and son both have been on antidepressants and are not interested in talking about it to anyone. Most of the time they don't even want to admit it because they feel better anyway.

If your struggling to keep relationships it might be helpful to talk to someone about that. Maybe if you do not want to talk to someone face to face you could consider some online therapies. There is a thread in treatments with the title "Online self-guided help" which might interest you.

I am wondering do you have to go to job interviews? Can you put job hunting on hold till you get some help with your health?

If your doctor is not prepared to help you. Please find another one. You could check out "Find a Professional" in the drop down menu to see if you have a doctor near you that has accredited mental health training.

Please let me know how you are going. I did feel concerned when I read you post. As I said at the start I know what it is like to hit rock bottom and it is not something that you want to face alone.

Hey mate, sorry to hear you're in such a bad way. I'm a gay man in my late 30s, single, HIV positive, and I definitely know what it feels like to be at rock bottom. Worth hanging on though.

GT is right, it doesn't sound like putting yourself out there for job interviews is sucha great idea right now, better to concentrate on your health first.

I can understand that talking isn't easy if you're not used to getting your problems out there. But a good counsellor or psych will help you with that. Plus how about you try talking on here. Sometimes it's easier to write things down than say them out loud.

dear Pablopablo, firstly don't consider yourself as being weird, or that's what you think everyone thinks that you are, but this feeling comes from your deep subconscious, but your not, it's just a lack of confidence.

Your doctor hasn't been too helpful so I would do as Grateful has suggested, and remember there are so many people feeling the same way as you, and what sexuality you are should haven't any base on how you should be treated. Geoff.
