I need some help. I finished grade 12 last year and since then I haven't been able to get a job or find anything to do with my life. I spend most of my days in my bed watching movies and talking to random people on Tinder because I have no friends. Literally none, I can't think of 2 people outside my family that would care if I died tomorrow. I'm beginning to notice that my hygiene sucks now. Last week I went four days without showering and didn't even notice. Not to mention my weight gain.

Doc prescribed me an antidepressant a few months ago but because of ridicule from my family I've stopped taking it.

I guess I just need someone to tell me, what's the first step to becoming normal??

Hey Hinata, welcome to the forums and thank you for reaching out to us.

I am sorry to hear you're not feeling well. I also finished year 12 last year, and isn't it strange how quickly things can change in just 12 months being out of school, without that regular routine? It's a bummer you haven't been able to get a job yet but just keep trying! It took me a good year and a half before I landed a job right in the middle of the HSC, but I grabbed it. You might also be able to score some luck with a Christmas Casual job, as now is the time people are hiring for the Christmas break.

The other thing I strongly suggest you do is get out of the house. I'm a casual employee, so some week I will only get half a days' work, and I'm left wondering what to do with my time. I've joined my local community radio station volunteering one day a week, I enter local art exhibitions, I do as much volunteer work as I can like the Salvos Door-Knock Appeal, and sometimes I'll just go to the beach or a park and read a book - something as simple as that, or going for a walk, will get you out of bed and doing something, ACHIEVING something. Make a list of things you want to do. They could be as simple as going for a jog for 20 mins a day to some sort of a creative outlet like writing, drawing, painting, scrapbooking etc. And don't underestimate the power of putting effort into your personal hygiene. Showers aren't just great for cleaning; if I'm super stressed or upset, I'll have a warm shower to calm myself down. If I need a bit of a confidence boost, I'll paint my nails or do my makeup.

Keep applying for those jobs and find some activities both inside and outside to occupy your time. I suggest having a read of the resources available here on the website too, as there are some tips to help both you and your family cope with how you're feeling.
