Hi Kelly,

It's great to hear that you're going back into your afternoon shift at the clinic again. As White Knight said, it's perfectly normal to feel anxious about starting or returning to something. If you find yourself getting into a bad frame of mind or getting too anxious, find a quiet spot and reflect upon why you're there. Hopefully it's because you have a love of animals and want to do what you can for them. Sometimes reflection can be therapeutic in itself. Perhaps talking to your supervisor to let them know that you're feeling anxious, it may actually alleviate some of that worry and fear. There is certainly no shame in voicing concerns to your peers and colleagues.

Just a couple of ideas which will hopefully help.

I certainly wish you all the best in returning.

Hi all,

I am starting my 1 afternoon a week shift back at the vet clinic this Wednesday!

I am feeling okay about it but as it gets closer I can feel some of those anxiety habits coming back. A friend of mine who also works there 1 afternoon a week and with me at a fruit and vegetable market has helped me to write a list of jobs to do, so if I get stuck I can just pull out the list for some guidance.

If anyone has any other tips to help get me through I would really appreciate hearing them!

Thanks heaps,

Kelly

Hi kjs, welcome

Well the first thing that comes to mind for you is that some anxiety is healthy and normal.

Anxiety leads us to worry and worry makes us think about the project ahead, the challenges just as that list is doing.

ADHD for example is normal in the development of the human being. Without it we would, as cave men, allowed our neighbour to thieve our food. ADHD made some of us extremely alert to such events or possibilities.

These things become issues when the levels of anxiety, stress and depression effect our lives in far greater levels.

You are prepared for this new job, do the best you can and don't worry because worry doesn't produce much so it isn't practical.

Good luck Tony WK

Thank you Tony and CF,

I will take all of that on board for tomorrow night. I think I will be okay. I have had quite a few good weeks in a row now which is great! I am trying to find a balance of not overthinking and worrying about it, and thinking about it enough to have myself prepared. Tricky business! 🙂

Thanks again! I'll let you know how I go
