topic Anxiety - Feeling Sick in Young people

Hi JamesK1,

I too have anxiety and I dealt with feeling sick for many years with the exact same fear of throwing up which led to me missing school and not wanting to eat in public etc.

I went to my GP and really looked for medical conditions that could be legitimately affecting how I was feeling (like not making it up because I was just anxious) and it turned out I had reflux oesophagitus which is a condition resulting from a faulty valve in the oesophagus that really does make you feel like you are about to vomit but is heightened by anxiety. This is treated with medication.

However an extremely useful way of stopping this nauseous feeling are peppermints which are a natural remedy and were extremely effective for me.

hope this helps 🙂

Anxiety - Feeling Sick

I have seen only a few of these posts about anxiety relating to the feeling of sickness,

Basically im 17 and currently in year 12, I have been dealing with many other types of anxiety since the age of 10 but was able to deal with them.

For the past few months now I have been struggling with constantly feeling sick when outside the house and being scared of throwing up, I used to be a pretty active kid, (tennis, soccer, running etc) but this has left me unable to compete in any sports as I just feel sick and it gets to the point where I can't move or ill throw up. I have visited the doctors and been prescribed Noten to see if it will calm me down for the time beeing but it has not helped yet.

Im posting to discover if anyone else experiences this and can offer some tips/remedies to help cure the sickness.

and yes I have read about trying to keep my mind off it when it comes and but the urge to throw up is so strong there is nothing I can do besides ride the wave out until it passes.

Cheers

hi jamesK

I can relate to this "sick" feeling you are getting. I rarely actually throw up however. Have you thought about a change in diet? Eating foods that are more soft on the stomach? Also foods that create lining on the stomach are very important. I found yogurt and chamomile tea helped settle mine. Hope this helps
