Im 15 years old and I do suffer from anxiety since I was 11, I have been through some bad feelings. I self-harmed last year, I stoped doing it. I did go to a therapy to help with my amxiety cause I was having pannic attacks 1-3 times a day and I started to hate myslef. I then got better and I was actually happy with myself for a bit.

then I started to hate myslef, I started to think im not good enough. Now I dont even feel happy, or sad. I feel nothing, just a plain feeling. Is that a sign of depression? Im really confused with my emotions and Im scared to talk to someone about them because they think im over reacting. I just want to be happy again

Hey there dandy,

first thing i want to say to you is good on you for getting therapy before and for coming here today, it takes guts.

the next thing i want you to know is that you shouldn't feel scared to talk to someone and by No means are you alone in this.

To answer your question it does seem like this is depression hitting you pretty hard which leaves me to ask if you would be willing to maybe go back and tell your therapist or even a GP (doctor) as well. There are people who feel like this every day of there lives and just wont do anything about it, so again, Good on you for coming here and talking with us.

I would suggest seeing your therapist again and rememeber that your not alone and there is no need to be scared to talk about it. its true some people wont understand exactly but thats because you are your own person. There are however, dozens of people who suffer in the same way.

I'm sorry to hear that you are going through such a tough time lately. It sounds like from your message that when you went to therapy it helped you a little; maybe you could consider going back?
You are not alone in feeling 'nothing'. Sometimes when it's too hard for our bodies to feel really sad or angry we tend to shut off these emotions. Sometimes this can mean that people feel a bit like a zombie going through the motions but not feeling anything. But it's okay too - because you're not alone and you can figure this out.

Rest assured that you are not overreacting. If you can look at seeing someone again then they can help give you the tools and techniques to help cope and get back to your normal self. Anyone who is trained in Mental Health will know that there is a way out and how to find it with you.

Hi Dandy101, welcome to the forums and thank you for sharing your story with us.

I'm sorry to hear you're having such a tough time. I'd like to congratulate you for being able to quit self harming - I struggled with an addiction to it, and I know how hard it was to stop. Well done!

I would definitely consider going back to therapy, or taking a trip to your local GP. With the right psychologist and regular sessions, you can beat this. I know exactly what you mean when you say you feel 'nothing'. Try and figure out some goals, long and short term, and I also strongly encourage trying something new, whether it be a hobby, joining a club, or taking a short course. Sometimes a fresh new thing is what we need to stimulate ourselves.

Don't be scared to talk to someone about it - we've all been there before, you're not alone. Read up on the resources about anxiety and depression here on the website, and perhaps give the hotline a call.

Remember that negative thoughts are just reactions to fear, and anxiety thrives on avoidance. You won't feel like this forever, don't give up!

Hi Dandy101,

Good on you for reaching out on the Beyondblue Forums. I am so sorry to hear of your bad experiences with Anxiety and Self-Harm.

I would fist like to say a huge WELL DONE to you for being able to overcome the self-harming. Anxiety attacks are scary at times and aren't the best when its happening 3 times a day. Have you thought about going back to therapy ? Maybe what you need is to find some good relaxation skills to help you keep calm when your anxiety is playing up or when your having an anxiety attack. Always remember your deep breathing, and some sort of exercise is always good to help reduce the impact of anxiety even if its just a 20 minute walk every day every little bit counts.

Feeling nothing maybe part of depression but if you are concerned and want answers i would suggest speaking to your GP, getting a professional's opinion is the best way to go. You aren't over reacting, and at the end of the day you need to do what's best for you!

Thanks for reaching out to us. It takes a lot of courage to open up about these feelings. I'm so glad to hear therapy helped you. Is this something you are still accessing or have you stopped? I did notice that it seemed you stopped going to therapy and things started to get worse for you.

It can be so difficult to know that when we 'feel better', it doesn't mean we stop managing our condition or how we feel. I've done this many times myself with my own anxiety and depression where I've had good periods, and stopped taking such good care of myself. That didn't help me!

I think it's really important you find what helps you and makes you feel good, like therapy, and continue with it. It's really great that you are seeking help and know that you want to feel happy again. That's probably going to take some work, but you've done it before! You can do it again! Don't give up on yourself and know that it takes a lot of strength to get back up when we've fallen.

Falling down is not a sign of weakness, it is a sign of strength you continue to get back up and work to create the life you wish to live.
