Hi lulu

Im just about cured of my dysthymia. I think my dysthymia was in a way a immayure side of my emotions. As an 18yo I was emotionally 10yo. That was until 55yo id caught up to how I was suppose to be.

Furthermore, with anti depressants it helps enormously. Seriously, in my younger days there was no one more sadder than me. My tears would fill a lake. I saw sadness in everything.

I hope that helps. Amy questions just repost here. I'll keep an eye out.

I dont know how many times I have googled "I overcame dysthymia" only to find that there is not one person who claims to be in complete remission.

I dont want to be like this forever. Its not fair. How can you feel so disconnected and spiritually dead fundamentally for the rest of your life?

Has anybody gotten their memory back or their ability to think creatively?

I just want to hear that my life isnt essentially a right off now.

Hi kozzieempty,

Just wanted to welcome you to the forums and thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry that your post hasn't been responded to yet.

I haven't been diagnosed with dysthmia, but I have struggled with depression for a long time. I think there are potentially a couple of reasons why you haven't found anything on Google.

1). People aren't always diagnosed correctly. BeyondBlue says that in dysthmia a person has to have milder depression for more than two years. I've had it since I was in grade six.

2) When people 'overcome' illnesses, they don't always write it on webpages or forums. Often we only hear the not-so-good stuff on Google.

I'm not sure if this is what you're after but I hope it provides some perspective - and yes, over time I was able to think creatively (but I struggle with my memory for other reasons!).

I can tell you that your life is not a write-off, but would you believe me? What I do know is that I have seen people truly bounce back from really really hard situations, because they just make little choices every day - to get up, to get dressed, to pick up the phone, to call a friend, to come online, to share their story.

Hi there

How are you feeling about your situation? Has your perspective shifted at all?

I am sort of looking after the same answers in my thread “does the sadness last forever?”

My psychologist has told me that my scar from depression may be that I have a small piece of sadness with me forever. But I do believe recovery is possible for you.

If you have time perhaps look at Kati Morton on YouTube and online. She has videos talking through recovery and general questions surrounding mental health.

i hope to hear from you

Hi White Knight

Have you ever felt you could no longer feel?

I no longer connect and feel real emotions. It scares me and makes me feel less human. Without my emotions I feel I am not myself and that life is pointless.

Do you know if my emotions will come back?

Thank you for your generous support

Hi LuLu

The only loss of feeling is numbness at times zoned out from a crying session.

I think you will only get relief from this via your doctor. Its good to get another sufferers account but things beyond that requires expert help.

Dysthymia is not a good way to live. Proper treatment will change your life. Seriously
