topic Uni failure in Young people

Whilst it’s not official yet I look set to fail one of my university subjects. If I fail I have to retake but course isn’t available until start of next year. Does anybody have any advice on how to get through this period and what I can do between now and then?. I’m desperate for it.

Hello

Curious

Do you experience any mental health symptoms?

If so it would be easier to receive some support as you have only mentioned studying difficulties.

If not perhaps you are better writing to the faculty where your studied?

Ask for what support is available and what next?

All the best

Hi @Guest_10532

I have actually been there… and to top it off… I failed 2 subjects one of them twice! I understand how it can be so disheartening when you put so much effort into your studies to find out it “wasn’t good enough” and it is so hard to work through. However, I just wanted to remind you, no matter what happened throughout your semester and exams that you have done your best! Even if you have only been able to give 50% of what you had that is still 100%!

I managed to pass (I actually went from an F to a D) my tricky class! In fact I ended making a post about it around the time of my exam season with some tips! I have linked it below for you! Either way I wanted to pop in to let you know that you aren’t alone, and that even though your uni experience may not seem like the “linear path” you will get there eventually! And I commend you for all of the effort that you are putting into your studies!

https://forums.beyondblue.org.au/t5/staying-well/stressed-about-exams-or-waiting-for-results-you-re-not-alone-and/td-p/622186

Wishing you the best 🫶

Hello

Sorry for prolonged reply been a bit busy. I have met with unit convenor and academic director and both refused to answer any questions I had today I spoke with some student bodies and are moving ahead with the formal grievance procedure. Thanks for your correspondence and advice.

Hi @trying_my_best

The backstory of this whole scenario is that I have ADHD and dyspraxia (ie. writing difficulties), I had a medical certificate to inform the University of Canberra College (UC College) of my absence, and I have a Reasonable Adjustment Plan (RAP) that they are required to follow through on. I was denied the opportunity by the UC College facaulty to do the assessment piece I was absent for which they were obliged to give me, instead they let me do a 2 question supplementary assessment for which I got 1/2 on and they still failed me. I met them on multiple occasions after and they refused to answer any questions I have/had. My girlfriend argued that their conduct would've been appauling involving a student without any learning difficulties whatsoever. Whereas somebody who has documented learning disabilities being treated like this she sees as utterly disgusting. Thank you for checking in, your help is really appreciated and I hope this gives more of an idea about the specific situation.

Hi @Guest_10532

I am so disappointed to hear that’s how they’ve treated you! Reasonable Adjustment Plans have been created for a reason and should be upheld, and I am so sorry that this wasn’t the case for you! But I am glad you have sought to start the formal grievance procedure! Hopefully this should at the very least allow you to access the feedback that you deserve!

If you feel safe and compelled to, I would love to follow along with your journey!

Wishing you the best!
