caitthefangirl,

Before I throw in my 2c worth, I want to repeat what Quirky said...

As long as you aware it is a fictional character. You relate to things you have in common and that makes sense.

And if I can ask one question... for how long has this happened?

That a story can have that effect on you is a reflection on the abilities of the author to suck you into a story like that. There was a book my daughter had to read at school in which one of the main characters died. She did not want to read the scene where it occurred, and found the book somewhat depressing despite the ending.

For myself, I find reading books can be more emotive that see the story on screen. Why? Because my imagination can be more active than what I see on the screen. Also in a movie, parts of the story are changed or omitted. Because of that there were certain stories by S King that would get to me on an emotional level. It just means the words of the author worked in having that effect on me.

So yeah... it is normal... provided it is within the context of the story. And I hope that it does not effect you in your other activities. And if it did... why not write about it somewhere? And if you were at school, why not talk to one of your teachers or counselor about it?

If you want to write about it more here... I or someone else will respond with kindness and support.

All the best,

I suffer with depression from a fictional characters death, it sounds crazy. I don't know if it's normal.

when they died, i felt all alone.

The character and I had such a bond and things in common like having a abusive (in my case, verbally) father and feeling like no one cares. Seeing someone who I relate too the most die hurts, it feels like I'm the only one suffering.

Is it normal? Or is it weird?

Hello Caitthefangirl, and a warm welcome to the site.

<G class="gr_ gr_12 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep" id="12" data-gr-id="12">Yes</G> I think it's something most of us feel when that particular character loses, it kind of feels like we have failed or lost as well, so it disheartens us.

I remember watching the roadrunner get away from the Coyote every single time, but when it was caught under the rock, the thrill of the cartoon suddenly ended.

Can I ask if you <G class="gr_ gr_14 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Style multiReplace" id="14" data-gr-id="14">are getting</G> any help for your depression, but yes I feel the same way you do.

Geoff.

Caitthefangirl,

thanks for your post.

I can relate to fictional characters dying, I cried at the end of Anna Karenina, after reading the book even though I knew the ending.

I think books upset me more than television.

I think many people get engrossed with books and television and movies.

I remember there was a soapie and when characters got married, viewers would send in presents.

As long as you aware it is a fictional character. You relate to things you have in common and that makes sense.
