Hey Starting new. This is actually my first post on here . Unfortunately from time to time we can all feel 'lost'. I'm sorry to hear that you are struggling and have a lot of respect that you have the strength to share your difficulties. From my own experiences of feeling lost/down , I've always found that trying not to put too much expectations on myself can reduce that feeling of being lost. What I like to do is list out a number of goals I'd like to have achieve each day. Some can be minor e.g. ; get out of bed and go to work. Perhaps list 5 'aims' that you would like to achieve each day. If you can achieve 2 of the 5 fantastic. 3 of the 5 even better. I've also made a habit of trying to focus on the positive things in life and list them each day. Again this can be as minor as 'the sun was out' or you said hello to an elderly person as they walked by' . I think also at your age we put a lot of pressure and expectation on where we think we should be or where we need to be e.g. career wise ect. . I hope I've provided some support. Please feel free to email me any other questions you may have. As you can see there are so many people out there that are caring and want to help. You should be very proud that you had the strength to reach out.

Hello Everyone

Im wondering if anyone has any tips on what to do when you feel lost?

Ifeel im forever going in circles and my attempts to break that cycle always seem to backfire or i loose interest quickly ( trying new arts, rekindling old interests or a new hobby)

Perhaps its the metal health stuff talking but i feel very lost in the world.

For those who dont already know me im 21 and have been told it can be normal for this age.

Any tips would be appreciated please.

Hey,

I totally know where you're coming from. I still often feel lost, or like something is missing. I like to get away by myself, go for a long drive or something to help with the initial feeling. When I feel lost, I kind of feel trapped at the same time, so wide open spaces help.

Problems get more complicated as you get older, and I left the country to escape when I was 27! I bought a ticket to the UK on my credit card. I wouldn't recommend it, but at the same time I don't regret it one bit. I travelled a lot back and forth to Europe for about 7 years before coming back home. Now I still go through moments where I think life is escaping me. I want something different but have no motivation at the same time.

One of the best things that helped me lately was my psychologist saying to not be so hard on myself. Let go of the thought of 'I should be...' and just let it be. Somehow it has helped. I've relaxed and on a good day I get stuff done, on a bad day I don't.

So for you, don't worry if you lose interest in something (that happens to me all the time!). Maybe it just isn't the right thing for you at the moment. You're only 21, and there are so many options out there it can feel a little overwhelming. I don't know you, so don't know what you're into, but exercise always helps me feel better. I have a better day at work when I ride my bike than when I don't. Being in nature always helps my mood and motivation as well. Feeling lost for me usually means feeling like I don't have a purpose in life. You have something inside you that makes you a unique, special individual. It can take some time to find you talent/calling, but I believe it will come. Good luck xxx

Hi all This is my first post, and I hope not the last I was lost for years, insecure, anxious, weak of character,in fact a rather useless human being. Hey I used to be a nervous nail biter - to a dangerous point. Yep then hyperventilation, phobia attacks, panic attacks,oh and 15 years on medication. There was so much I didn't know, being raised in an emotional void. Then came the change. With therapy I recovered, written 3 novels and been happy for years. Some ideas are: write down affirmations and read them until you believe them A good one is: it is your birthright to live a joyful life! Ect. If you are lost get a quiet place and meditate Blockout your thoughts completely and during this rest time build yourself a glorious healing studio in your mind Build it with bricks glass bananas anything you desire. This is a place where you are safe lol

Hey I am new here When your feeling lost sit quietly in the garden, block out negative thoughts and meditate. During this stillness build a healing studio in your mind Build it slowly, use any materials, bricks bananas whatever. Place furniture in the room, paint it brightly. This is yours alone,a safe place to calm mind and body Go there when weary It is our birthright to live a joyful life Ask for guidance. . ask the universe, ask God For direction It will come Cherio

Hello there. Thankyou for your reply. Yes affirmations do work, but you must read them over and over until you believe them to be true. Also old worn out thought patterns hold some of us down. I had to get controll of my thoughts and guide them gently to a happy pathway. And keep them there!! Bye

Hi startingnew,

I understand where you're coming from when you talk about feeling lost. I go through similar cycles. I seem to feel really excited about something for a while but then my interest peters away or I begin to think I'm wasting my time and then stop doing it. Maybe it is normal for people our age - I am 20.

What kind of thoughts go through your head when you lose interest in something and decide to discontinue it? If you know the internal dialogue maybe you can try and counter it. For me it's usually "why are you even bothering to do this. You're no good at it. You're wasting your time on unimportant things". So to combat that I work on lowering my expectations, feeling more self-respect and understanding that if I like doing something it is important and not a waste of time.

Best of luck 🙂
