Hey! Does anyone else just replay every stupid thing they have said throughout the day over and over in their mind? I can't go a day without doing this!! I'm so sick of it.

Im happy yet just lack so much confidence! I have a great life and I most likely don't need to be posting on this forum but you know here I am. I suck at writing things and can't punctuate for the life of me so please forgive me.

I try so hard to be great and I guess that's what gets me down. I I struggle so much with my weight and I make so many excuses. I am overweight and it sickens me, but then I will happily eat my body weight in food if I'm feeling crappy about my weight. Why would I do that?

Thanks for reading xx

Hi life welcome

Ive had over weight issues all my life. Everyone has a diet to recommend so here's mine.

drop off spuds, butter, marg, sugar and walk!.thats it. I lost 11 kg in 11 weeks.

keep at it but the very best way to aboid consuming food is distraction. Distraction also happens to channel your mind on what you're doing away from intrusive thoughts.

A wandering mind might need some guidence. Visit your GP...its worth a chat. In the meantime, hobbies, sports, interests, can help you keep focussed. I remember many years ago I built my own home and was so exhausted every evening I was too tired to think about other stuff.

And punctuation? ...dont sweat the small stuff eh

Hi Life 🙂
Good post White as they always are 🙂

Yip hear ya Life but along the way I'm finding it's not happening as much cause my mind still does but use to take me back to any and every time someone had hurt me, yrs ago was driving me nuts. Wish I could tell you how I have nearly overcome it but not sure though I'm taking the bull by the horns so maybe working through depression (Bipolar) is helping.

Yeah hear you bout the weight, biggly downer, my reasons are taste (lurvvv the wrong food) greed and psychological ( some drink, drugs, food) to bury pain.

Excercise does give you an outlet of stress which you need outta the body, it doesn't need to be vigorous actually better off easing into cause can be too much hard work and then we say blagghhh, the best way is to push through the mind saying no, depression pulls us down every way it can but good thing is you said you're happy so keep thinking about the good stuff too.
Walking's a good gentle excercise and being out and about is stimulating too.

I believe we all have strength and you've shown it by posting here.

Survival is strength, believe you can get back on track cause you can.

Actually you don't suck at writing, you were very clear and as White said "Don't sweat the small stuff " honestly I didn't even notice.

I like that you're honest with yourself too, you said you wanna be great, you probably are but because the confidence is low you just don't realise it.
Try not to put too much pressure on yourself, we're all guilty of that and we really don't need that stress. We can't be let down if we don't expect anything of us or people.

To become confident I'm learning is we need to like ourselves and you can do that by looking inside and thinking about your good points, most of us have an abundance of. The fact that you're mostly happy would help, think about why so you can use that for back up.

Dunno there seems to be two minds we have, one that wants us to be happy and one that wants to pull us down, we all know which one we wanna play with.

Keep talking darl, we're here for ya 🙂

Hey Life555,

You're not alone, I constantly find myself saying stupid things and then coming up in my mind with a million other things I should've said in it's place, this is normal - but I think it's something you should focus less on, it's in the past and as much as you wish you could go back and change it, you can't; it is what it is.

As well as food goes, trust me I know how you feel, as someone who suffers from bulimia, I can understand the guilt you might feel after a binge. Although it may not be as big of an issue, I would recommend working with a nutritionist or dietitian before things get out of hand. When shopping for food, set a budget or make a list of foods you NEED, a few snacks here and there are fine, just focus on staying healthy and drink lots of water.

Hi Life 555.

Weight is something that may people struggle with. Nearly 50% of people are overweight. It is nothing to be ashamed of. It can be hard finding the right balance. It is also confusing as there are so many mixed messages out there. We have paleo peter, atkins, cabbage soup diet, etc. Many of these are not scientifically tested and haven't been looked into long term.

My advice for someone wanting to manage their weight and optimise their nutrition is to go on the government website https://www.eatforhealth.gov.au/ It is developed by the government by nutrition professionals known as dietitians. They follow evidenced based practice. On the website on of the more useful tabs on the top is 'food essentials' then 'the five food groups' as well as 'how much'. This helps educate you on roughly how much of each food group to eat in a day. Now remember this is just general healthy eating advice as it is done for a wide population. If you want something catered for you maybe look up your local dietitian or as your gp for a referral.

I also want to remind you that depression/anxiety/mental illness can affect anyone. Doesn't matter how good your life is. It can happen to any gender, sexuality, ethnicity, age etc.

Hope some of this advice has helped. I also suggest body confidence. I know it is hard but everyday when I look in the mirror I say one thing I like about my appearance. I say it out loud. At first it seems silly but after doing it everyday for a while it will sink in.

Good on you life taking the tips on board and you're welcome

MsPurple gave good info on the site for helping with weight and I have some proven ways of weight loss too, actually it's the perfect diet which can be a dirty word with all the pressure and so many hit and misses with them. I think many fail because we're not disciplined when we're overweight and suddenly we have to go against our grain and habit.

I've lost about 52 kg's (25 ish to go) over 2 & half yrs since losing beloved partner which the stress of grieving pretty much to start with made me not bother to eat much but the great part is eating what you want still along the way. So basically what's needed is to have periods of 2/3 days here and there being good, eating the right stuff which most of us know what the bad stuff is and good then eat the naughties which yeah we know are no good for heart & general health but either is extra weight so this is proven to be effective by not only myself but on TV once a bloke did along those lines & lost mega & maintained it. I think it may have been 3 times a week he was good but the main thing is don't put pressure on yourself just keep with it in your own time.
Also I heard and confirmed with GP that when we diet we go into starvation mode and the body tightens up the fat, then when we're into the yums it releases it, can't think why but it works.
Also I've maintained the loss by excercise which has many advantages including majorly for mental health, stress release, if it's reasonably strenuous (ease into it) it releases endorphines, feel good chemicals and was told from a Psych that also a bit strenuous in sun there's something in it that reacts with the brain, this one isn't the endorphines and is VERY powerful for helping with depression as well. I walk. Nice too being out in the world amongst people who tend to say g'day and smile as opposed to if you saw them in the street they may not acknowledge us.

Good to hear from you and hope you continue to catch up here so we know how you're doing

Hope your days a good one 🙂

Oh wow more useful information thank you! I have lost around 23kg since the beginning of this year but I have come to a point where I'm finding it super hard to loose anymore. Massive thank you so everyone because I feel all your tips will help me loose more weight and to get my confidence back!!

So sorry to hear about you and your partner. I was only thinking the other day how grateful I am that I have had a mental illness in the past. I was in a really bad state about a year and a half ago (suicidal). I have now realised that it was the worse thing that has ever happened to me yet the best thing as well. My friend has recently been diagnosed with depression and I am so glad that I can actually understand what she is going through and help. It is such a horrible thing mental illness!!!!! So please don't get me wrong anyone who reads this! I just am so happy I got through everything and can now help others.

Thank you everyone for your support xx

Life Hi darl, what a great positive post, so happy for you with your weight loss, it's a very hard addiction to beat but the rewards as you'd know from that loss is sooo worth it aye.
Don't put pressure on yourself I've found, I've basically been a yr pretty bad but having the odd times that are good oops but maintaining (that spelling doesn't look right) loss with excercise, that or I'm sick but feel fine so must be that.
Good for you taking it on board too.

Thanks for your compassion to loss of my darling, yeah it's not bloody fair is it, there's mongrels out there that hurt people and keep going pfffttttt. Miss him so much.

HI Life555. It is great you have 25kg! congratulation. That is a big achievement. Half the battle is maintaining a weightloss but sounds like you have been the same weight (with the weight-loss) for a little bit (sorry if I am incorrect). What you are going through sounds a platoe in weight-loss. It is a normal thing to go through. It can be really frustrating thought if your goals is still a little more. Sometimes a change up in exercise (e.g. if you run 30 mins every day, maybe run 30 mins one day followed by weight baring exercise the next etc). I also sometimes try increase my vegetable intake and make sure I eat when I'm hungry not when I'm bored. Remember weight loss doesn't mean you have to go hungry. That is completely wrong. Please make sure you get a regular dr check up to make sure your nutrients (e.g iron) is all fine 🙂 I like to do this every now and again myself because I have had iron deficiency in the past.

Remember to not be too hard on yourself. Slow and steady wins the race. And love yourself as you are. It is hard to do sometimes (especially with mental illness and poor self esteem). I also try do a body confidence and self esteem meditation on an app called calm
