topic How to reduce anxiety and delusional thoughts/mindset in Young people

Hi Gen

You have written a good post here and its not really delusional as I had a cold shiver go through me thinking about a black window looking nowhere. Everyone has an imagination and a uncovered window would scare the hell out me

I am happy that your mum is going to put up the kitchen curtains again 🙂

The turning around and checking is more common than you think. I still do it after turning the lights off if I have a tired mind.

I have had years of chronic anxiety followed by depression and understand where you are coming from Gen.

Super regular counseling can elevate your sense of well being which I have joy with. Even a regular visit to a good GP can be a huge help for a 'vent' or a 'tune up'to help us avoid these unwanted thoughts

you are not alone here Gen.....thats for sure

I hope you can post back when convenient for you. There are many gentle people that can be here for you 🙂

my kind thoughts for you

I'm feeling pretty on edge lately and i'm constantly turning around and checking to see if anyone is there around every 30 seconds to a minute or so. I just always feel like i'm going to see some creature peeking out from a door, or my wardrobe or looking in through a window, and it doesn't help that my mum took down the kitchen window curtains. If I had it my way i'd have all the curtains closed at all times. I also find myself staring out into the back paddock along the treeline searching for some creature for extended periods of time.

So what i'm asking is, does anyone have any tips on how to not feel so paranoid all the time or to reduce this heavy anxiety? I'm already onan antipsychotic medicine and im going to start seeing a psychologist again soon. My mum just told me shes going to put up the kitchen curtains again, so that will help but its not really a good solution. I just want to feel safe.

Hi Gen, welcome to the forum. I'm glad you've joined us. It must be exhausting for you at the moment, and very disturbing.

I wonder hun if maybe it's time for a medication review? Have you done that with your doctor before? Do you think it would help to let your doctor know that this is troubling you?

You are clearly aware that things are changing for you, and you are feeling less safe. I think it best if you see your doctor or psychiatrist (whoever prescribes your medication) as soon as you can in case things start to escalate. (And if they escalate quickly, go to hospital.)

Have you been in this situation or something similar before Gen, where you're aware of unusual things, not quite right? If so, what do you do if you start to feel unsafe? Have you been in hospital before?

Sorry, lots of questions, I'm just try to work out the best way to help you. I'm here to talk if you want to. I have bipolar disorder. I'm not on an antipsychotic but have a number of friends who are. How long have you been taking them?

Kaz

Hi Gen - just checking in to see how you are today.

I found some info you might like - it's on the Mind website from the UK. Mind is the UK's major mental health charitable organisation. Unfortunately I can't copy and paste the URL. But if you want to Google 'paranoia Mind UK' you should find it.

I'm glad you're going to see a psychologist again soon Gen. It might take a bit of time, but hopefully they will help you get some clarity in what's happening when you feel paranoid - if the paranoia is a response or manifestation to how you are feeling and what you can do to help it. From what I understand from friends, cognitive behavioural therapy done with a good psych can help some people with this.

Perhaps that, and a check on your medication, might be helpful. I hope so.

Meanwhile, we're here if you want to talk.

Kaz

Hey Kaz, thanks so much for the replies 🙂

My medication has been slowly brought up over the year and its helping a bit with hallucinations and i'm nearly on max dose. I haven't really been telling my psychiatrist about this paranoia, but i know i should so ill tell him and also my GP when i next see them (which is soon).I've never been to hospital before (I haven't had many delusions in the past) and the thought makes me quite nervous, but if things get really out of hand i know it would be necessary. Also i'm 16 and have been taking antipsychotics for probably around 2 years (I may be wrong, my memory is pretty bad).

Again, thank you very much for the replies! Also, sorry if my reply is a bit disorganized haha. I'm going to go to the website you suggested now 🙂

Hi gen the friend 🙂

Just want to say that for your age you are amazing for seeking an answer in this way and being open to share with your GP and psychologist.

I also think it's amazing that while the thought of hospital makes you nervous, you understand that it could be necessary - my hat goes off to you for this.

In my experience, a willing mind and heart is all you need to help yourself, and you've got just that.

Let us know how you go!
