lonely when i'm in a crowd

hi,

this year my friend and i have integrated into this larger group. i really have never been one for groups larger than three or four, because i prefer that one-on-one interaction. my friend, however, fits in perfectly in this group which on some days has an upwards of ten people. even when i'm surrounded by all these people, and my friend, i feel so lonely and that (excuse the cliche) no-one gets me. they're all loud boisterous people, but i feel like a shy introverted black sheep. they don't have the same interests as me, and our personalities, while they don't clash, don't click either. i want to find like-minded people to sit with, or just sit with a smaller group, but i don't want to leave the only person i like either. is this something i just have to tolerate until high school ends and i can break off into the real world and find my people? is there anything i can do?

Pretty weird for a middle aged man who has never had kids to give advice to a teenage girl but I can relate to your post.

I have never liked crowds have always preferred one on one company or very small groups and don't have mainstream interests,(I hate sport for eg)

We live in a culture that puts a lot of pressure on people to be extroverted and a consumer society wants us all interested in the same things because that works well for the advertising.industry and their clients.

My advice to you would be to do what I didn't do ie throw yourself into your studies.Then when you leave school you will have the option to pursue something you are actually interested in and that will connect you with people who are passionate about the same kind of things you are.

Some of them will be introverts like you and bingo, you will meet one or two people who will bring a lot of joy into your life.For now work hard and be patient,your time will come.

Find people or be better at being alone or wait. Only real options, but they are interchangeable and can be temporary.

Hi Achlys

Your post is important as there are so many people just like yourself who are shy. I used to be as well in high school

Your point is valid and many people will benefit from reading your post.

If I can quote what BBB....(Broken Biscuit Blues) said

Be gentle to yourself and accept that you dont have to be anyone else than the great person you are
