topic Bipolar/Manic Episodes-Question in Young people

Hi jetta,

I can mostly answer this bearing in mind we are not qualifued but have issues ourselves.

In 2003 i was incorrectly diagnosed with ADHD. My behaviour was according to my psychiatrist, consistent with that dirorder. In 2005 he added bipolar1.

In 2009 I sort another opinion and was correctly disgnosed (2psychs present) with bipolar 2, depression, dysthymia and anxiety.

My point is, mania can be mistaken for another illness and visa versa. Also, illnesses can overlap. Bits of this illness and a bit of that...

It can be complex, hence, why we have medical experts.

Nothing, but nothing beats a proper diagnosis.

Episodes of mania are associated with bipolar disorder, right? But do you think it's possible to have one without having bipolar?

Bipolar/Manic Episodes-Question

Hi Jetta

This is a hard question to answer. I suggest talking to your GP or doctor about this. Always take advice from your health professional over a forum user.

In saying this I have a few questions ask? How long did this episode last for? Manic episodes tend to last longer than just ADHD or adreneline. I found when I go to a theme park I felt hyper, excited, full of energy and feel invincible. Some could call this a 'manic' episode, however this is a normal reaction to the situation. If it has happened multiple times out of the blue, for no reason then it maybe a manic episode which could be a sign of bipolar. I suggest asking your doctor about this it is better to get the correct diagnosis so you can be treated properly.

Hope this helps
