Hello,

I am a teenage girl currently attending high school and I have been diagnosed with anxiety. I see a therapist every 2-4 weeks and it has been helping a lot. Although, I noticed over the last few days that I have been hearing things that aren't there such as music, whispering and people saying things. I eventually notice that I am imagining what I am hearing and end up very confused. There are no "voices" per say and the sounds are not a threat to myself or others but they have been making me feel anxious.

I really would like some advice,
Thank you

This is certainly a problem for a trained medical person or your therapist.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful

Hey MyNameIs,

Welcome to the forum!

I'm glad you're seeing a therapist regularly, and that it has been helping so much. Next time you have a therapist appointment, definitely mention hearing the music and whispering. It's fortunate that what you hear isn't dominant or frightening, but it's understandable that you are concerned.

This is an anxiety resource you might like to save for future reference:

I hope you can resolve this matter of hearing sounds.

Best wishes,

Hi Mynamels,

How confusing and distressing that must be...It is reassuring that those sounds are not too disruptive, however this matter needs to be investigated ASAP. This is a recent development so reassessment and a proper diagnosis are required. Knowing exactly what you are up against is the necessary first step towards managing it.

Please do not hesitate to have an open, honest conversation with your therapist. You may need medication to help overcome those unsettling symptoms. A boost to your anxiety levels is most unwelcome. Take good care of yourself.

Kindest thoughts.

white knight, Zeal & Starwolf

Thank you all for the advice. I have an appointment booked with my therapist for the end of this month and have been doing alright so far and thank you so much. My therapist has wanted to look into medication for my Generalised Anxiety but I always turned it down because I felt I didn't need it. I have observed that I am hearing things more frequently when I am feeling anxious in general and then when I start hearing things, I feel even worse. I have been doing relaxing things and will continue doing so until I can speak about it.

Thanks again,
