Hi bananas, welcome

I and many here have a history with anxiety. Mine, at 32yo in 1987 was severe from a workplace incident that questioned my dignity and authority. It took me around 25 years to conquer it 95%. Which I'm happy with.

I need to add I have depression and bipolar 2.

Firstly I can't emphasize enough how serious your issues are. A trip to your GP is essential.

As individuals we all have different triggers and needs to combat our condition. But I found I had to reassess many aspects of my life in order to get myself into recovery. Like-

Proper diagnosis and treatment as ordered by medical professionals...most important...no guessing here by others not qualified.

Relaxation. General relaxing methods you are comfortable with say 30 minutes a day listening to music, walking etc.

Relaxation exercuses. I had great success with muscle tensioning exercises, others with yoga etc

Budgeting. Financial stress adversely effects many of us.

Toxic people eg cyber bullying or even family or friends. Sort out your conflicts. Seek harmony

Work. If you work at all and it causing issues, seek another job.

Education. Have a plan B if you cannot continue with your chosen career. And a plan C.

Sometimes we over for things. Burnout is common for some. Recognise your mind can overflow with modern stresses. You are not abnormal, you just need a bit of help to get through thus period and manage aspects if your life better.

Best of luck. Post as often ad you need

I have always kept to myself and am not one to tell others
about my problems or thoughts. I have always pushed myself to do the best I can
with schooling and life in general. I am currently studying at University away
from my home town. I struggled coming back to uni this year after 4 months at
home. I had a few minor panic attacks in the first few weeks where I was
doubting my ability to get through the course and would cry most nights. I often
come home from class and go into my room and close the door- this makes me feel
safe.

I overthink everything in life- mostly tiny, irrelevant things.
I have recently had a panic attack which was the worst I have experienced. I was
driving to another town for the weekend and felt my chest tightening, I began
crying uncontrollably for no apparent reason. I began to feel faint and dizzy
so pulled over when I got the chance. I got out of the car and tried to calm
down. I couldn’t control it. I felt like I was suffocating. I felt nauseous to
the point I forced myself to vomit. Then cried even more hysterically because I
had no idea why I just forced myself to vomit. I sat back in the car and
started sipping water. It took over half an hour for me to calm down and start
controlling my breathing. I was embarrassed about the situation and turned up
to my friend’s house like none of that had just happened. I find it easier to
hide my emotions than try and get people to understand.

Should I see my GP? Does anyone have similar experiences? Coping Strategies?

Thanks xx

Thanks white knight!

I'm anxious about going to my GP and I think I'm slightly embarrassed by it all. But I know it's what I need to do.

Hello Bananas

You have great strength by posting and good on you. Tony WK has given a stack of sound advice above including how fast society is going...and accelerating..New technology...targets...exams...job responsibility..family issues...

You are one of many who have anxiety. I do feel for you as my first similar anxiety attack happened when I was 23 in 1983. It was awful...uhg! I do understand where you are coming from

Severity of anxiety/panic does decrease over time....

Regular visits to a GP/counselor will be a huge help....you will find some peace quicker..

Quality sleep is a great healer....Anxiety loses some of its power when you are rested

When you see your GP, you are the boss as you are the one paying the bill

Venting (talking) is great therapy too....nothing better than letting off steam...on here or to a friend

You have no need to be embarrassed at all Bananas. There are many people like yourself...

There are many kind people on the forums that can be here for you. It would be great if you could post back

My kind thoughts for you 🙂

Hi Paul!

Thank you so much! This forum has helped me a lot already. It is great to know that what I'm experiencing is 'normal'.

i have definitely noticed that sleep/lack of sleep plays a large role.

Take care 🙂
