Hi

New member to beyond blue and just thought I would say Hi

Today is the day that I have decided to look for help & support from others who feel like I do, I have a husband who suffers from anxiety/depression and a young teenage daughter who has anxiety issues and I just find that sometimes it gets a bit much.

Being the "stable/balanced one" isn't all that it's cracked up to be and sometimes I feel the scales are very unbalanced.

Welcome purple zebra!

I am glad you have made today the day, I hope you can have a look through the BB resources on the home page to find support for carers, many pearls of wisdom in there. Many fine folks on this site will relate to how you feel, it's tough to be a carer and be true to your self. You are lovely and you are brave. I hope you get to take time out, daily, to be your self and partake in the things that bring you peace and happiness, you deserve it but you might have to push to take it. Like a meditation, keep negative thoughts out of your time. You are allowed to take a break some times...plan ahead.

I hope your husband and daughter are receiving appropriate treatment. Do you have things you can try for these times when it all gets a bit much? Talk here any time, love to you.

Yep, I'm feeling that way today.

To all of the other carers posting here, or just reading, we have such a tough job. Heartbreaking is a good way to describe it. We're sticking in there, so that's something! I'm trying to give myself a bit of a break, but I need to keep it altogether... that's the hardest part. When things are awful, like they have been today, we do what we have to to get our loved ones the help they so desperately need. We care for them at their worst, their most vulnerable and that's when we need to be strongest. Now that's tough. I'd love to have a good cry right now, but I'm waiting until my daughter goes to bed, because I don't want to fuel her anxiety. I know it will get better, but in the moment, it's distressing and so sad.

Thanks to those of you who posted for the first time here, that's me too! It's good to know there are others in the same boat that are muddling through and doing the best they can.

Keep hanging in their everyone.

A big HI to <G class="gr_ gr_18 gr-alert gr_spell gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="18" data-gr-id="18">Purplezebra</G> and all the other carers who have responded to this post. As a carer champion for Beyondblue, I love hearing and connecting with others who 'wear the same shoes'. You get it and can be compassionate to each other as the pain and frustration <G class="gr_ gr_340 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_run_anim Grammar multiReplace" id="340" data-gr-id="340">is</G> raw, real and you all know it.

I love 'I'm mum' response- ' We must remember to keep ourselves together, take care of ourselves too. We must not give up on ourselves. Remember CARE FOR THE CARER. it starts with us caring for ourselves. Cause often nobody will'.

These words are so important and powerful, and l hope you all have read it carefully. We give so much of ourselves as carers and neglect our own needs and dreams.

We all have bad days, but there are good ones as well. I have found that living with gratitude has the power to lighten a dark day. Don't sweat the small stuff and be mindful of the wonderful things that do exist around and within you. I l know it's hard to do this when you are challenged by someone else's depression and/or anxiety - but you can control how you feel and act. When it gets too much, take time out and do something for you. It isn't selfish to do so (I once thought it was). I call it survival.

Hang in there you courageous souls. There is light at the end. A virtual hug to you all.
