Hi Concerned Aunt,

I have only just become aware of your post so am wondering if you are still out there, connected and hoping for a reply.

It certainly does sound like your family has quite a struggle with mental health issues.

Can you please tell us how old the boy is? Does he have violent tendencies?

You mentioned you are afraid to sleep while he is in the house, that must be a very concerning thing for you as we all need our sleep and a sense of peace and rest.

Do you have anyone else in the house with you? How did the boy come to live with you?

If the counselling seems to be making him worse, can he go some where else?

I am not sure if you are still connect to Beyond Blue or not, so will check in a day or so and see if you have sent in a reply.

Meanwhile I wish you all the best. I would be going to see the boy's Dr to have a chat and see what else can be done for the boy.

Hi ConcernedAunt,

I hear from your post that your nephew is seeing a Counsellor at the moment, but this doesn't seem to be helping. I'm wondering whether you and your family have considered taking your nephew to see a Child Psychologist or Child Psychiatrist? I only say this as I think they are much better equipped to deal with mental health issues, and in all honesty I am surprised that the counsellor hasn't already referred you on. If your nephew is now hearing voices this could be the start of something new and it's definitely worthwhile seeking a second opinion.

If you have fears for your own safety, a Psychiatrist will be able to determine whether it's safer for your nephew to spend some time in hospital in order to establish the most appropriate treatment and care plan.

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.
