Hi there,

Welcome to the forum. It sounds like you are a great friend to be around with. It's somewhat rare to find friends who go above and beyond to help others.

What is your thought process when someone ask you to go out with them? Do you know what makes you say no? Perhaps understanding this will give you a direction on how to overcome this.

After Covid and working from home for a long time I developed social anxiety. My routine felt very monotonous and I was rarely going out or socialising. There was a gaming event that was advertised that I really wanted to attend but I was very reluctant. I remember driving a long time and then walking up to the door at the event but stopping there. Seeing all the people inside I was feeling very anxious and about to walk back out. But then I thought "if I walk in either I might enjoy my time or I might end up not liking the event. But if I walk out I will never find out". I'm glad I walked in because I thoroughly enjoyed the time and found like minded friends. I've been attending similar events ever since.

I think I am a very nice and approachable person. I have friends, but I never go out with them. I reach out from time to time, and if they ask for help, I always go above and beyond to help sort things out. My coworkers often ask me to go out with them, but as much as I want to have deep connections with people, I always end up saying no. How should I connect with people? I really want to change but I don’t know where to start…
