I have been dating my current boyfriend for a year and a half now and it is my first serious relationship. In this time he hasn't given me any reason to not trust him, but <G class="gr_ gr_194 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del" id="194" data-gr-id="194">yet <G class="gr_ gr_200 gr-alert gr_tiny gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling multiReplace" id="200" data-gr-id="200">i</G></G> don't. I know where this comes from, about 4 years ago now <G class="gr_ gr_275 gr-alert gr_tiny gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling multiReplace" id="275" data-gr-id="275">i</G> was the one to find out my dad was having an affair on my mum. I know my boyfriend is a completely different person but yet <G class="gr_ gr_507 gr-alert gr_tiny gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling multiReplace" id="507" data-gr-id="507">i</G> still can't find it in myself to let go and fully trust him. things <G class="gr_ gr_941 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_hide gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation multiReplace replaceWithoutSep replaceWithoutSep" id="941" data-gr-id="941">like talking over <G class="gr_ gr_723 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="723" data-gr-id="723">facebook</G> and getting left on <G class="gr_ gr_753 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear Grammar multiReplace" id="753" data-gr-id="753">read</G> and him being active and not replying</G> <G class="gr_ gr_949 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar multiReplace" id="949" data-gr-id="949">doesn't</G> help and <G class="gr_ gr_1020 gr-alert gr_tiny gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling multiReplace" id="1020" data-gr-id="1020">i</G> know he doesn't mean it but my mind goes to the worst possible thoughts otherwise when <G class="gr_ gr_1380 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling multiReplace" id="1380" data-gr-id="1380">i'm</G> with him <G class="gr_ gr_1433 gr-alert gr_tiny gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling multiReplace" id="1433" data-gr-id="1433">i</G> am fine. I have thought about just not talking during the day but <G class="gr_ gr_1560 gr-alert gr_tiny gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling multiReplace" id="1560" data-gr-id="1560">i</G> feel as if <G class="gr_ gr_1601 gr-alert gr_tiny gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling multiReplace" id="1601" data-gr-id="1601">i</G> would still have those same feelings if he is still using social media.

Is there anything <G class="gr_ gr_1774 gr-alert gr_tiny gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling multiReplace" id="1774" data-gr-id="1774">i</G> can do to fully open my heart and trust him 100<G class="gr_ gr_1828 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Style multiReplace" id="1828" data-gr-id="1828">% ?</G> <G class="gr_ gr_1837 gr-alert gr_tiny gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling multiReplace" id="1837" data-gr-id="1837">i</G> am open to any suggestions

Hi Maltagirl

i understand where you are coming from. My dad cheated on my mum with her best friend. This went on for 5 years before it all came out. We saw and heard things that no teenager should see or hear. That was many years ago now.

it took me longer than most people to find my first boyfriend because of this.

Truthfully, time helps. I found a good man that I trusted. We aren’t together now but he restored my faith in men. Those feelings of insecurity reared their ugly head in other relationships, in this one it never did. I think reassurance from your partner helps. Also try changing your way of thinking. You said it in your post. Your boyfriend isn’t your dad. Think that when you are feeling anxious.

It took me a long time. Just go easy on yourself. 🙂
