Hi, I have been on medication for about 3 months and have gained 7kg which is making me to start feeling really down I'm only 5ft tall so 7kg is quite noticeable, Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and what they did to help not gain and to lose the weight? I was first put on a different medication but I had an allergic reaction so not sure if switching meds is an option?? Any advice appreciated TIA

hello, I would be talking with your doctor and see whether there is an AD that won't gain weight because if you do gain then that's another problem you also have to cope with.
The number of AD'S has certainly increased these days and it maybe trial and error to see if this AD will help you but also not put weight on.
A lot of people have complained about gaining weight being on an antidepressant, and I hope that this is something that needs to be addressed by the companies, but it's not going to hurt having a discussion with your doctor. Geoff.

Dear Stressedoutmumma~

As Geoff says weight gain is quite common and very upsetting for many. Trying to diet and exercise to compensate for the extra can be extremely difficult -a nd if one cannot that in itself can lead to feelings of failure and lack of self-regard.

Along with Geoff I'd see my doctor and ask about alternatives, there may well be others to try. It may also be the weight gain is more at the start of the course - I'm not sure.

Having said that I would like to mention that if the meds are doing their job then that is a blessing and sometimes one has to make a judgment call on balancing the positive benefits against the side effects
