Hi PixieBlue

Welcome Pixie and I wish it was under better circumstances for you. Good on you for having the guts to post.

Iv had chronic anxiety for 13 years which turned into depression 21 years ago...Now take meds and slowly recovering from the depression.

Many many people go to hospital to get treated which does help a lot. Its frustrating that your docs and therapy were not effective for you.

If you have a good GP. Thats always a great place to ask your questions.

You can self admit as a voluntary patient at any public hospital with a mental health care facility. They would want to do an evaluation prior to admission. The emergency ward is a good place to start.

If I may ask a question.....have you been or are you taking any meds? If your GP/Psych agrees they can be a huge help and may prevent going to hospital.

I would suggest making a double appointment with your GP first to discuss what you have here today Pixie

The GP's have much better training with mental health than when I was going through my bad years.

Beyond Blue also have terrific qualified non judgemental people on the 24/7 Support line 1300 22 5636

Please let us know how you go. I really feel your pain Pixie

my kindest wishes for you

Psychiatric Help

Hi,

I have had on and off severe depression for the last 6 years of my life and over the past year it has continuously gotten worse. I have been seeing the same psychologist for the past 2 years and I have had 3 different psychiatrists and they've all been no help. My depression and anxiety got so extremely bad about 5 months ago and I was nearly admitted to a psychiatric ward at the hospital, but my mother refused to let me go. I am now 18 and able to make these decisions for myself, and I was wanting to know if I am able to just walk in to a hospital and admit myself, and if so, how do I go about it?
