Hi,

Does anyone know of a live chatroom where you can talk/find/give support and share experiences on TMS?

Have chatrooms died out and if they have what have they evolved into - I'm getting old and think it probably still exists but on another platform or something?

All input much appreciated.

Dear SucculentQueen~

If you use the search function on this forum there are over 100 hits on "TMS" (no quotes).

Some are people asking what is it like and others are giving accounts of their experience. You may find one or more pople to chat with.

The search function is the spyglass at the top of each page.

Apart from that could I suggest you contact our 24/7 councilors who may perhaps be able to advise you of a live chat room.

May I ask if you are thinking about it or have undergone this treatment?

Croix

Hi Croix,

Thank you for always replying to mine and others' posts across the BB forums. I see your name pop up often and the thoughtful and practical responses you contribute There are a few others, as you'd know, keeping the forums alive!

At your suggestion, I had another search and the latest TMS post to come up was mine from 2024 which I think you may have responded to. Other peoples posts look to have fizzled out after one or two replies and I haven't tried again to resurrect those old posts due to having little success in the past. Also at your suggestion I called BB today and asked about peer to peer resources and was referred back to the forums. I will keep ringing around - you never know.

I've finished rTMS treatment as of yesterday and throughout the last few weeks in particular, the search for honed in live chat specific to TMS whether face to face or online has not turned up anything. My experience is the the treatment needs to be an entire program rather than something you show up to for 3 - 5 weeks then go back to your previous environment which may or may not have stood as a trigger for depressive thoughts.

I knew this of course before I started treatment but haven't been able to springboard into healthier habits as yet although this may still change. Going back to my environment also involves a terrible workplace which is responsible for some of the misery. The workplace is probably the thing that got me to TMS in the end. There are certainly improvements albeit minimal however I'll take anything the process wants to give me. I would recommend it to everyone, but ensure you set your life up so that you don't return fully to your previous life. For me, there's a direct connection between my health and where I live. Where I live has me isolated and a long way from the things I am connected to. There's alot to it and I'm being a little negative right now hence the purpose of listening to the experiences of other people. I have no-one helping me judge the benefits if any just as I had no-one pulling me up on my mental health and how bad I was at times. I need people to learn from and its never too late to grow in emotional health and intelligence I guess.

Thanks again for your interest and suggestions, I so appreciate it.

Dear SucculentQueen~

Nice to be appreciated -Ta.

I'm sorry your internal search did not yeald anything useful. Outside I Googled "transcranial magnetic stimulation chat room" (no quotes) and the AI answer plus other hits did point to several areas, however I'm not specifying what they are as you will have to use your own judgment as to their safety and quality.

I was interested in your assessment of TMS having undergone a course of treatment. It is hard to judge as I've found my employment, circumstances and life in general have had the major effect on me and a change in them has had very beneficial results, where conventional therapy by itself has not.

So I think you are right in saying that the treatment may need to go together with a change in life.

I remember for example years ago I was treated with hypnosis by a psychologist specializing in that treatment. Whenever I was in the consultation room it had a most beneficial effect however as soon as i stepped outside life clamped down on me again. It was only many years later when I was introduced to a particular medication was I able to do some of the exercises taught. I guess it was the meds as much as the therapy.

As for having nobody to let you know how you are feeling, its severity o=and frequency I'd suggest another approach is to keep a record you make yourself. The Black Dog Institute has a paper-based mood diary that looks useful. Beyond Blue has the PACE app that may be of some help. Although they are subjective it can be helpful to have chart record of how feeling and use this to work out what is helpful. There a a number of others on hte web, once gain you will have to use your judgment.

As you as, keep on looking

Croix
