Hi Paul that would have been an interesting talk. I have a fitbit inspire 3 with sleep tracking. I do check it each morning but to be honest I mainly bought it track my walking and other activities. It does give you information about your breathing, heart rates and oxygen levels throughout the night and when you were in the different sleep stages but I've always been a bit dubious about the accuracy of these functions. Did they mention anything about the accuracy of these watches?

Hey Hey Everyone!

I heard a excellent discussion (with a psychologist) on 3AW re the benefits/negatives of having a 'Smart Watch' track the quality of our sleep. I can see the technical benefits of sleep tracking yet just asking for your opinions if you find this 'sleep quality tracker helpful?

Just for myself I know that doing heavy duty gardening/landscaping always make me sleep so well!

I have a Garmin Epix 2 Sapphire and a Samsung 5 Pro watch...yet I dont see the point of tracking sleep quality.

Your assistance, experience and advice are very welcome 🙂

my kindest always

Paul

Thanks Mum52 for taking the time to reply 🙂 ...its always really helpful to have another point of view...I tend to be the same and use these 'smart watches' for the same reasons as yourself! Walking...steps...etc.

There have been some people who have been alerted by irregular heart rhythms that required hospitalization which is interesting...so they do work

The Fitbit inspire series (including your version are accurate!) The Samsung and Apple are also high on accuracy as well. The BPM (beats per minute and other functions are accurate) on the Fitbit, Samsung 5 Pro and Apple watch.

Thankyou heaps for your feedback Mum52!

my kindest

Paul

Hi there Paul l hope your well mate.

Saw the title and immediately thought exactly the same sort of thing as you before even coming to the thread. For me any form of physical or the outdoors will give me a much better sleep than any watch.

Matter of fact the other first thing l thought was that it's not only common sense anyway but it's also fact and the advice , that one of the best things you can also do is switch off and walk away from devices 30mins before sleep. l often do this one too and it really settles the system down.

So for me messing around with some damn watch and with whatever it does, no thanks. l don;t need a watch telling me whether l slept well or not.

All the best.

rx

Hey RX

I was just about to switch off this system and noticed your screen tag!!

You have always had a sense of clarity RX. You are an asset to Beyond Blue and the forums 🙂

Ive been doing okay and thankyou for asking RX. My 10th anniversary is approaching January 16 2026

How are you and your daughter going? Your daughter has a great dad RX...

That makes you a Champion (in the true sense of the word) RX

my kindest always

Paul

Eh again Paul and ahhh, thanks for that my friend but hey don't worry , l get plenty of blurry moments too ha ha.

Nice to hear your doing ok tho and congrats on the anniversary and the gesture too. Myself though, man tbh, no promotion needed ha ha,too much responsibility l'm quite content just wandering about round here and there in enonno mode.

And thanks for asking too , d is doing ok of late touch wood , l've been away for awhile but we're always in touch and been having some nice catch ups since l've been back.

But yaknow, on the sleep thing, there's a line isn't there. Like my ex gf worries about sleep so much, keeps so many tabs on herself she sleeps even worse. To me more gadgets and watches would just add even more to things, but anyway, that's me.

You take hey and all the best.

rx

Thanks Paul that's reassuring about the accuracy. I think smart watches are good for keeping a check on your fitness as long as you don't obsess over it. I like the fact that it reminds me I need to get up and move every hour.

Chris

Hey Chris/Randomxx

Its always a bonus to have some common sense on the forums and thankyou so much!
