So while having my weekly walk to Aldi, I noticed something very unusual for a shopping trip: I was feeling somewhat excited to just walk to my destination and looking at the scenery. Initially in my pessimistic habit I was berating myself on how sad things were: walking to the shops is the highlight of your week? Sad!

However, I think there were some cool aspects to this. When the world slows down and there's less opportunities for socialising and entertainment, the mind seems to sort of adapt and feel excited in the little things that are available - in my case, a simple walk to the shops. Maybe even a bit empowering in knowing that outside entertainment is not a necessity and slowing down with everything can work out? Just my Sunday night musings. 🙂

Volkerballoon,

I love this post! I think you're spot on– as things slow down and daily life gets more boring, smaller and smaller things start to feel like adventures in themselves, which I agree is actually kind of neat! I find myself appreciating little things more– for example, from my window I can sometimes see my neighbors in the building across from me playing with their newborn or their cat. Just a little domestic scene of happiness that otherwise I might not have noticed but now makes me feel really warm. My nightly walks have started to feel like adventures as well as I've gotten to know my neighborhood better.

Lovely observation.

Volkerballoon,

I am loving this insight. I myself have been noticing more beauty in life, even while doing the most simple of tasks. I find myself feeling the sunshine on my skin, and just being thankful to be alive in this day and age.

Social media may have skewed society in a way to only think beauty is only about people, but it also helps us see other beautiful places that we want to experience when this is all over - whether these places be just a few minutes down the road, or half way across the world.

I reckon we keep opening up our eyes to things we may have taken for granted before isolation.

Cheers!

Totally hear you guys. I am hoping that this situation ends up making us appreciate our freedoms and the beauty in the little things of life.

I have joked around with my family saying I might put heels and jewellery on to take the bins out, lol.

I do love the fact that the earth has had a little break from the 'worlds busyness'.

I suppose that saying about every cloud having a silver lining comes to mind.

Kindest thoughts to you all.

Hi Volkerballoon,

I also love this post.

I've found food shopping so therapeutic. Over the weekend I went shopping, and I spoilt myself buying mushrooms and noodles that I'd never cooked with before, an have made yummy food with recipes that have challenged the mind.

Regards,

Volkerballoon

I can really relate as part of my routine is a walk up hill to the shops which I look forward to. I see people and say hello at a distance.

I think taking pleasure in small things and appreciating nature and surrounding environments.

Thanks for the thread

Hi Gems! Thanks for the lovely reply. My house does not have views to a neighbour's house; only a view of the far-away cityscape of the CBD. Currently makes me think "one day when the lockdown is over, I'll go back there and check out a new restaurant." 🙂

Hi LexiJane,

Thanks for the reply. I found myself spending time in a park, watching dogs play. I've never done that before! 🙂 Hopefully there are still sunny days left for this Autumn.

Hi Doz86,

Thanks for the reply. Speaking of food, I decided to experiment for the first time with a YOGHURT marinade. Turns out, it's a pretty yummy way to hype up a chicken breast. Note for next time though: burns easily
