Hey,

The headspace meditation app is great for when I'm feeling overwhelmed and like my thoughts are all over the place. There are free practices and an option to pay for more but honestly the free guided meditations are a great place to start.

Hi,

Has anyone found any free (preferably) mobile phone apps that help with mental health issues?

Cheers and take care 🙂

Dear SapereAude~

There are many, from those that record your mood each day to some that try to change your mood or assist if you are overwhelm and have suicidal thoughts

I'm not going to detail the latter here but point you at Beyond Blue's own free smartphone app BeyondNow and say I use it myself

https://www.beyondblue.org.au/get-support/beyondnow-suicide-safety-planning

On another subject entirely I use the free smartphone app Smiling Mind which, with practice takes ones mind away from your current state and assists in what's called "mindfulness" (though I'd not worry about that label)

https://www.smilingmind.com.au

As I have a mind that is firstly hard to steer away from anxious thoughts, and secondly wants to keep reverting or wandering on to something else. I find this app ideal as it has a lot of different levels and I find one where the frequency of audible reminders and instructions is at the rate I happen to need.

I certainly reach for it when distressed in this way and also use it to induce a general calm frame of mind

No doubt others will be along with umpteen other suggestions 🙂

Croix

P.S. Forgot to say, sorry.

If you wish to investigate on-line therapy then I'd suggest the Mindspot Clinic

Hi SapereAude,

I hope this finds you well! I just saw your post and I see myself as a little bit of a tech nerd but not sure if you've found what you are looking for yet.

There are so so so many different apps out there for mental health - it might be a good idea to clarify what it is you are looking for. Something to track your moods? Something to use as journalling? Ones for meditation? Suicide planning?

I have a couple that I use for keeping safe and panic-mode, but for general mental health I use MoodNotes as a way to journal and check my thoughts to see if I'm falling into any thinking traps, Worry Watch - as a way to write down my worries and basically see if they come true or not, and SuperBetter. The SuperBetter one is a little hard to explain, but basically it's gamified mental health - so things like practicing gratitude and drinking water is a power up, and talking to my inner self-critic is a bad guy. It's good fun 🙂

I hope this helps!
